About this deal

The other thing I’m an expert in is sex,’ Jones continues, ‘and I thought I’d like to write the Ladybird book of sex. It would be the least erotic book ever written. It would be about inbreeding and the differences between males and females – I touch on it a bit in the evolution book – but the publishers said no. It was a Ladybird book too far for them. Children are our future, and this book is about their future. As a scientist who has studied the climate from pole-to-pole, and as a parent with two young daughters, I believe there is no more important issue to inform and educate young people about." I wonder, would Prince Charles be able to put his name to such a book at some future time when he might be our king? Or would the subject be regarded as too political? This was a very worthwhile project and the first author’s celebrity status will get the messages to a wider audience than would otherwise be the case.

Ever since I was a young teenager I have been deeply worried about the way we have shaped our world," he begins. "I am pleased to see that children across the world … are now raising the alarm and calling for big changes to happen. Their efforts have emphasised the importance of caring about what life will be like in the future—there is a lesson in this for us all.” The illustrations by Ruth Palmer deserve a special mention – they are attractive and very evocative of those of the original Ladybird books. You'll learn about the causes and consequences of climate disruption; heatwaves, floods and other extreme weather; disappearing wildlife; acid oceans; the benefits of limiting warming; sustainable farming, new clean technologies and the circular economy.

The book could easily have fallen foul of the often poisonous political wrangling over climate policies in royalist media such as the Daily Mail or Express, if the tone was not carefully chosen.

A cookie set by YouTube to measure bandwidth that determines whether the user gets the new or old player interface. Die "Ladybird Expert Books" richten sich an interessierte Laien und wollen schwierige, wissenschaftliche Themen einfach erklären. We humans may be hopeless at acting in our long-term interests over climate change, but our ingenuity can be boundless when desperate. Take HMP Channings Wood, in Devon, where staff have reportedly had to ban sugar and fruit used by inmates to brew homemade booze after smoking was banned.

One book won’t catapult climate change out of the green margins and into the middle-England mainstream. But with 6500 copies sold (and counting), this is a book on climate change that might just reach the elusive ‘unusual suspects’. Ever since I was a young teenager I have been deeply worried about the way we have shaped our world.’‘I am pleased to see that children across the world […] are now raising the alarm and calling for big changes to happen," wrote the former Prince of Wales. "Their efforts have emphasised the importance of caring about what life will be like in the future – there is a lesson in this for us all." This is not about passing the problem to them, but helping to ensure they are armed with the facts and thus in a stronger position to urge that changes are made to protect their future," Juniper said. When the first edition of the Ladybird Expert book on Climate Change was published in 2017, CO2 levels in the atmosphere were 405 parts per million (ppm), now they are 420 ppm. As a consequence, the impacts of climate change are becoming worse and we saw temperatures reach an incredible 40C in the UK last summer. It’s a while since I bought a Ladybird book – but I still have a lot of the original series dotted around the house.
