About this deal

Here we have one of the most reasonably priced star projectors available. Think of it as an educational STEM toy for young budding astronomers rather than anything too sophisticated. There are 30 additional discs available when you visit Astrial, Sega Toys' official online store. Simulations of the aurora borealis and the aurora australis are perhaps the highlights. There is a disc that displays the planets of the solar system as well, but it is the ones that show galaxies, nebulas and other NASA-based imagery that really stand out. For example, the North America nebula as taken by NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope and the weird seven-star system called Jabbah (officially called Nu Scorpii and IC 4592) as imaged by NASA's WISE mission. You can also buy disks that simulate fireworks, 'night jellyfish' and a hot-air balloon festival.

The fact that it is rechargeable is a plus compared to the much more expensive Sega Toys Homestar Flux as it means you aren't limited to keeping it near a power source. The colored design might not be for everyone, but it's still quite discrete, and a white option is available for an additional cost. The spherical design means you have near 360-degree angling, and it comes with a 1.5 m cable, giving maximum positioning flexibility. This gives it a slight edge over the Encalife Atmosphere Smart Galaxy Smart Projector, which has similar specs but can only be used in four fixed positions. (Image credit: Tantse Walter) The Ambience Galaxy & Star Projector resembles a UFO shape and has a faceted dome to help disperse the LED over 180 degrees. After reviewing lots of star projectors, this is a unique design.

This rechargeable star projector emits bright, colorful and sharp imagery that gives the best star projectors we've tested a run for their money.

The 2.0 version of this projector includes the BlissLights smartphone app, which connects via Bluetooth. With the app, you can choose from seven different effects modes, adjust the intensity of the projector, control the brightness of the laser and even set the rotation speed. You also have the option to create your own custom color blend using the app. However, the stars will always appear either green (for the 'Classic Green Stars' variant) or blue (for the 'Cobalt Blue Stars' variant). The same Astro Planetarium Multimedia disks are included — one featuring a starry night sky and the other featuring overlays of constellations, and it's all entirely accurate for the time and day you're using it. Like many other star projectors, there's a 'shooting star' function, although, in our Sega Homestar Flux review, we explained how we'd like this to be at random intervals, or in a different place each time so it isn't as predictable. It has an automatic switch-off after 15, 30 or 60 minutes function. During our Aurora Borealis Northern Lights Star Projector review, we were impressed with the musical rhythm mode. It does a great job of altering the lighting display to match the 'feel' of the music, and the sensitivity of the microphone can be adjusted for a more or less powerful light display, making it perfect for parties. As discussed in our Bresser Junior Astro-Planetarium Deluxe review, this star projector draws many parallels to the Bresser-made National Geographic Astro Planetarium but doesn't include an integrated FM radio or the ability to attach an audio device. The Bresser Junior can only be powered by 3 x AA batteries, so buyers will likely need to grab some spares if they use it long-term.

The lights are bright and vivid, and there is a fair amount of customization, but you'll need to use the supplied remote to access some of the functions (rather than being able to access them using the buttons on the device). Other star projectors on this list, namely the Bliss Lights models, offer more color combinations, but there's more than enough here to entertain yourself and your children. There are now multiple-star projectors on the market, so many that you might be tempted to go for the cheapest as surely they all must do the same thing? There's also a 45-minute or 90-minute sleep timer (that you can also set using the remote), which we found ideal for a child's nursery, as you don't need to go in and risk disturbing the child to turn it off. The projections from this little projector are undoubtedly bright, sharp and vivid. The center wheel at the top is easy enough to turn with one finger to bring the images into focus. There is enough 'movement' in the focus wheel for projections at a range of distances. The ideal distance is 2.5m with a 12-meter squared projection area. Encalife Ambience Galaxy & Star Projector:A neat combination of a star projector and Bluetooth speaker built into one. It isn't scientifically accurate but it displays vivid nebula-inspired patterns to enhance the ambience in any room. ★★★½

You have acne or Plus-Size Body Shape? You are called e-girl or car girl? You have to hide your authentic self after having a kid? It's time to see yourself in a new light. Just switch on your POCOCO galaxy projector.' Not all star projectors are scientifically accurate — some are designed to be pleasant ambient lights to be used as kids' night lights or just to create a relaxing atmosphere. However, some models are scientifically accurate and create a planetarium in the comfort of your own home — these include the the Sega Toys Homestar Flux, National Geographic Astro Planetarium and Bresser Junior Astro-Planetarium Deluxe. What is the difference between a star projector and a planetarium? Here's one for space fans and paleontology enthusiasts alike. The second novelty-shaped projector in this guide and it's surprisingly capable in terms of functionality, and during our Dinosaur Egg Galaxy Star Projector review our children loved it! Astronaut Starry Sky Star Projector:A well-made novelty star projector that every kid, or space fan, will love to have in their bedroom. It isn't quite on par with other star projectors performance-wise, but it does everything we'd expect of it, given its reasonable price. ★★★★ Bresser Junior Astro-Planetarium DeluxeThis Bresser planetarium star projector, designed for kids, has true-to-life projections, a five-year warranty and is simple to operate. It has a time and date selector, a shooting star function and a sleep timer, and it ships with two disks.★★★½

POCOCO Realistic Galaxy - Discs Galaxy Lite Star Projector POCOCO Realistic Galaxy - Discs Galaxy Lite Star Projector

There is one rotation speed which is slow and soothing — there's a little bit of noise from the motor but nothing that would be distracting, and better than many models we've tested. We've tried and tested numerous models and have described who would be the best recipients of them in our best star projectors guide. Depending on the model you choose, star projectors can recreate the night sky accurately from the comfort of your own home, surrounding you with stars, constellations and double as galaxy projectors. Whether you’re hosting a space-themed party, learning about the cosmos or simply looking for a way to help you fall asleep, star projectors can do it all.The design quality is top notch, it really projects at HD quality. The galaxy scenes and colors are incredibly vivid and realistic. You can see every detail of the galaxy and stars unlike other room projectors that blurs or greys out. I also like how it rotates slowly like watching a real constellation, and how you can switch them out whenever you want based on your mood. There is a shooting star function, but this leaves a little to be desired, and we think it's an unnecessary add-on.

POCOCO Galaxy Projector: Shine with Real Galaxy

For a non-scientific projector, consider the BlissLights Sky Lite Evolve. This projector's primary purpose is to create an exciting, colorful atmosphere for parties, bedrooms, gaming rooms and beyond. Like the Pococo, it has a small, discreet, spherical design, and you can control the lights and lasers using a Smartphone app.The Pococo Galaxy is a simple, pleasant shape. The model we reviewed had a blue and pink paint job but it's also available in white. (Image credit: Tantse Walter) When we see a star projector we like the look of, that has plenty of functionality and sits at a reasonable price point, we get hold of one for ourselves so we can put it through its paces and give it an honest hands-on review.
