About this deal

Natural night owls are fundamentally different to insomniacs or people who stay up until the early hours because of family or work circumstances. Being a night owl isn’t a problem – unless you’re trying to fit into a schedule that doesn’t suit your natural cycle. Earth to Beatrix. This was the night bus, not a Journey song. Two strangers were not on a midnight train going anywhere." It’s like a documentary on owls in book form and will teach your kids how these birds raise their babies, hunt, and defend themselves.

While morning larks equally benefit from being allowed to arrive at work early and leave early, Kring feels that the battle is hardest for night owls, who experience more stigma. Many night owls say they receive sarcastic comments from colleagues about being lazy when they arrive at work later, even when they stay late to compensate. One of my favourite things about The Anatomical Shape of a Heart is how there is not a lot of drama. I, personally, am not a fan of those contemporaries filled with fights where the characters forgive each other after a minute. This book was pretty unrealistic with some insta-love, but I found that there wasn’t too much drama, and I will take insta-love over drama any day. the story started getting a bit better towards the end but it was so dramatic and soap-opera-like it was hard to continue but i did it!! Beatrix's character was downright irritating at certain points and i find her to be very immature and harsh to the people that she loves. For a person who is written off as logical and kind of unemotional, that was certainly not the case in the book and there were moments that I had to physically restraint myself from slapping my forehead. Looking at Mindfulnessis like a walk through the quietest private museum with the most soothing docent. French psychologist Christophe André uses classic works of art to explain the art of mindfulness. While, say, teaching his readers to observe the details of the light in a Rembrant, André will also be teaching his readers to be present in their own lives. While looking at a chaotic medieval fresco,André talks to his readers about how to react to and compartmentalize chaos in their own lives. This book is loaded with over 750 diverse photographs that are used to help inform the reader about owls. Owls of the World: A Photographic Guide was written by the world’s most notable owl expert, Heimo Mikkola. Dr. Mikkola is associated with the University of Eastern Finland, Helsinki, and is known for having traveled across 128 different countries over the past 40 years, journaling on all 249 species of owls. This book summarizes his findings, with all the complex details penned down as simply as possible. Therefore, while this may be a tedious read for some, it’s the most well-structured book for an avid owl enthusiast. Jenn Bennett is a new to me author, even though she’s not by any means a new author. This is her first YA title and I’m so, so happy she’s jumped in this genre.

Another theory is that variation is simply how genetics works. Colin Espie, professor of sleep medicine at the University of Oxford, says this mirrors differences in hair, eye and skin colour, or height. “It’s a bit like any other biological characteristic. There’s a normal distribution, so there are people on both extremes – and the majority of people are neither.” So if all the scientific evidence supports the idea of flexible schedules aligned with our individual sleeping patterns, why aren’t we there yet? Employers have long been hesitant to allow their employees to work flexibly and remotely, though this attitude has been undermined by the sudden shift to online working that the coronavirus pandemic has required. We’re brainwashed to believe that early birds are happier, more successful, more disciplined and all-round better human beings than night owls. The hours when I feel most alive are considered ‘ungodly’ and likened to a vampire’s schedule. Owls like myself internalise this message, and we believe we must be lazy, depressed and irresponsible.” Espie has treated night owls who want to adapt their sleeping patterns. He does this by asking night owls to gradually shift their sleeping pattern earlier, usually by 15 minutes or half an hour per week, through doses of bright light in the morning. This causes the brain to shut down the production of melatonin, the hormone that causes sleepiness. In the evening, night owls must make their bedrooms as dark as possible. Equally, Kring views the idea that everyone should be in the office at the same time as a hangover from the industrial revolution, when most people worked in factories. “It’s this mentality of ‘I see you therefore you’re working,’” she says. “But that’s not the case when you’re a knowledge worker. It’s more about the quality of your work than how much you’re working.”Amazingly, The Anatomical Shape of a Heart is an art book! I haven’t read too many art books, but I have enjoyed basically every one I have read. This particular book features two contrasting art styles: graffiti and dead body / anatomy drawing. I loved this because normally, art books take the typical painting or sketching. The Anatomical Shape of a Heart takes on a type of art that I didn’t know existed, making this book extremely unique and enjoyable. The Enigma of the Owl is one of the few very detailed yet captivating books on owls. Mike Unwin wrote the book with unique photographs by David Tipling. Mike Unwin has studied the birds for years and describes the behavior, breeding patterns, diet, and cultural superstitions of various owl species. The Barn Owls tells the story of a group of owls who call an abandoned barn their home and how they survive and thrive there. Owls Artsy, cool and everything you want a San Francisco adventure to be. Get ready to be swept away.” Maximum Pop

When I can’t sleep, I always reach for an audiobook or a podcast. The narrative is usually enough to stop my mind from spinning so I can rest. I chose this audiobook because not only does it incorporate some wonderful classical music, but it’s narrated by Jim Dale. Jim Dale is probably most famous as the narrator for the American version of the Harry Potter series, but this short fable won’t tempt you to stay up for hours listening. His sonorous voice is especially comforting, and he’s the perfect person to read a bedtime story. But Professor Espie thinks the tide is turning. When he first qualified as a doctor 40 years ago, exercise, smoking and diet weren’t taken seriously by the medical profession. “No self-respecting doctor would run clinics encouraging people to lose weight or get fit,” he says. “For many years, we’ve been advocating for sleep and it’s been falling on deaf ears. But nowadays there’s a lot being written about sleep in the media and it’s coming into the public consciousness. That’s hugely important.” So despite portraying a healthy young couple with some good chemistry, Night Owls didn’t do much for me. I admire the honest conversations about sex and the message that you should fight to make your (art) dreams come true, but for the rest this story had little tension, a few easily-solved problems and uninteresting side-characters. Wow. Gorgeous cover. Stunning story. Incredible writing. This isn't your average YA Contemporary Romance. I admit that Jenn Bennett is a name that I haven't heard of when it comes to YA. But after reading this novel, her name is one I'll never forget and and I'll forever stalk.Oliver, the curious owl, questions everything about him, and this story follows Oliver as he tries to find the answers to some of his most curious questions. Little Owl’s Day He’s gorgeous, he’s funny, he’s talented and he’s got a secret no one would ever guess about him. He’s one of the city’s most wanted graffiti artists. His life is definitely not perfect. He’s got some major things happening, things that he can’t exactly be up front about for reasons I can’t even tell you because I’m not a spoiler! Flexible work schedules are currently not the norm, but sleep experts believe they should be. For 15 years, Camilla Kring has run B Society, which advises companies around the world on how to implement “chronoleadership” – the idea that they should adapt their work patterns to suit the sleeping schedules of their employees, rather than the other way around.
