About this deal

Mountains Made of Glass is a novella that Scarlett wrote just for the fun of it. And it shows and I love that for her and us readers. It takes inspiration from all different fairytales to create this unique enemies to lovers novella. Instead of kissing the frog (I loved the inclusion of that tale), Ela has to kill it, which she does. But the frog has six elven brothers ready to avenge him, with five of them appearing to send her to their brother, the beast of the story, as a slave. Ela can either be free in a week if she guesses his name right, or he’ll forget his name and fade into oblivion, but she doesn’t know that for the most part.

The beast’s realm, I mean Casamir’s realm, The Kingdom of Thorn is quite a thing, with hot Selkie, goblins who love blood, fairies here and there, Wolf the raven, and Enchanted forest. We returned to her kingdom where her father declared that we would wed,” he said. Then he asked, “Did you rescue your princess?” She makes me feel like it won’t matter if I have a name or not. So long as I know her, I will know myself.”

At the end of a dusty dirt road off California ’s Highway 395 lies a mountain made of volcanic glass, also known as obsidian. Located just north of Mammoth Lakes, the dome is part of the Mono-Inyo volcanic chain. Mountains Made of Glass by Scarlett St. Clair is a fairy tale retelling that came out on the 7th of March. I was approved for an e-copy, courtesy of NetGalley, by Bloom Books when I requested it because anyone on bookstagram, or Goodreads, or literal or booktok has heard of Scarlett St. Clair at this point. Typically such plots involve a Byronic hero who is powerful and attractive, yet flawed in ways most notably exemplified in the life and writings of Lord Byron. This hero (often a vampire, but an Elven Lord works as well) is moody, dark, cynical, independent, masterful, and has a mysterious past that not only gives him much pain but has made “love” almost impossible for him. But he is also absolutely magnetic and sexually irresistible. He can be cruel, too, but who can blame him, given all the grief festering inside him? Not we readers, surely! Gesela lives in the village of Elk. It’s inhabitants falling from curse to curse, a never ending vicious circle. When it’s Geselle turn to kill the toad in the well, she hesitantly takes action. The following night she is confronted by five fairy princes. She killed the sixth brother who she thought a toad. As a punishment she is sent to the seventh brother, who is a beast. Can they end the curse?! This was such a fun read. I love a good fairytale retelling and this one hit the mark and then some. It was so unique and intriguing, and funny! I loved every minute.I don't want to give too much away but some of the things said toward the end. I actually almost shed a tear it was so goddamn sweet. If you get to the part where the mirror was choking up (iykyk) that was most likely the part that had me in a chokehold. Just everything about this I thoroughly enjoyed, and I recommend it if your inner adult child is looking for a dark twisted mosh posh of fairytales to light your soul on fire. Casamir, the prince of Thorn, a beautiful and magnificent fae alas has been cursed by the Glass Mountains. When Gesela accidentally also brutally killed one of the seven brothers, the other five send her to the cursed brother to may break it by learning the real Casamir’s name. Could you love me?" he whispered. The question stole my breath and burned my lungs in the silence that followed. Many thanks to SOURCEBOOKS Bloom Books via NetGalley for giving me a chance to read the first book of Fairy Tale Retelling, Mountains Made of Glass by Scarlett St. Clair, my review is honest and my own. We know how the story will go; this is a fairy tale retelling; there is a happy ending. But there is a reason why we read and don’t use those stupid book summary apps; we enjoy the path the author takes to get us there. St Clair builds a good worldbuilder! She grounds it things we’ve heard about and then takes it away from there to something magical and horrible at the same time. Wolf is the only decent thing there; everyone wants something and is constantly bartering to get it, whether that is the selkie or even the prince. Nothing is gentle and pretty; beautiful things are cruel, as is expected of them.
