This is an unusual entry on our list, given that it only has one function. That said, we have included it in this guide as an inexpensive 'faff-free' star projector, though as we discussed in our BlissLights Starport USB star projector review, we use the term star projector loosely. In a telescope, the planet will display a half-illuminated phase and an apparent disk diameter of 22 arc-seconds. With each passing day, Venus will slowly increase in illuminated phase, shrink in size, and diminish in brightness. That will make them close enough to share the view in binoculars (orange circle), but delay your search until the sun has completely set. Visual Magnitude: This is the astronomer's scale for measuring the brightness of objects in the sky. The dimmest object visible in the night sky under perfectly dark conditions is about magnitude 6.5. Brighter stars are magnitude 2 or 1. The brightest objects get negative numbers. Venus can be as bright as magnitude minus 4.9. The full moon is minus 12.7 and the sun is minus 26.8.

At opposition, Jupiter will approach 370.2 million miles, 595.8 million km, or 33.1 light-minutes from Earth, and it will shine at its maximum brightness for 2023 of magnitude -2.91. Astronaut Starry Sky Star Projector:A well-made novelty star projector that every kid, or space fan, will love to have in their bedroom. It isn't quite on par with other star projectors performance-wise, but it does everything we'd expect of it, given its reasonable price. ★★★★
Most star projectors come with a 'sleep timer' that will switch the device off after a specified amount of minutes. With three ridges on the bottom, you can easily adjust this projector to project at three different angles, including upwards onto a ceiling. It combines an LED and a direct laser diode to create dynamic RGB projections with moving patterns. Operation is manual rather than digital, but you can access additional informative descriptions of the pictures on the slides online using a provided 'secret code.' This allows children to learn more about the different space objects and concepts depicted in the slides and adds fun and mystery to learning. Degrees (measuring the sky): The sky is 360 degrees all the way around, which means roughly 180 degrees from horizon to horizon. It's easy to measure distances between objects: Your fist on an outstretched arm covers about 10 degrees of sky, while a finger covers about one degree.
