About this deal

Even with the upright configuration, the Triflex’s dirt volume is below average at only 0.5 liters. Founded in 1899, Miele is one of the world's leading manufacturers of premium domestic appliances including cookers and ovens, refrigeration products, coffee makers, dishwashers and laundry and floor-care products. The brand launched its first ever cordless vacuum cleaner in February 2020, which set the benchmark for the Triflex HX2 range that has followed. Aside from the increase in power, there's a 0.4kg weight difference - the Triflex HX2 being the lighter of the two - and variations in the attachments that come with the two Miele vacuum cleaner ranges.

Through testing, the Triflex HX2 Pro measured in between 54dB – 58dB for noise, as we slid through the power settings using the floorhead. This is noticeably quieter than the level recorded when using the accessories, which we measuredat between 5dB – 63dB. The expected noise level for a vacuum cleaner is around 70dB, so the Miele Triflex HX2 Pro is less likely to irritate, if noise is important to you. But I wouldn’t spend extra for the Cat & Dog model because its handheld ergonomics is less than ideal. The brush roll is on the slim side with stiff bristles, which is why it didn’t do well with longer hair strands (more on that later). This board width enables it to vacuum more debris than a narrower head but at the expense of portability. IIn the before and after shots above, you can see, you can see that the passes were clean, and there wasn’t any visible debris left. Deep cleaning resultsAside from its struggles with quaker oats, it did well with other types of debris like coffee grounds, sand, and quinoa. Cleaning carpet is where the Miele Triflex HX1 excels with its above-average airflow and brush roll design.

You can get two batteries out of the box by purchasing the HX1 Pro, plus an extra charger. Ergonomics and Usability Miele claims that the TriflexHX2Pro offers up to 120 minutes of continuous power – achieved using both batteries. On the lower setting using just one battery, the HX2 Pro lasted just 27 minutes 14 seconds, whereas on the Max power setting runtime was only 11 minutes 23 seconds. Our preference was to switch between Eco and Max power settings in our household, which saw the battery last around 19 minutes. The price is at a sweet spot for the performance it brings to the table. You could argue that the Cat & Dog offers more, but it’s slightly overpriced, in my opinion. The HX1 Pro is the premium option with the LED-equipped nozzle, which Miele calls the “Multifloor XXL BrilliantLight.”The floor cleaner here is similar to those seen on Dyson cleaners, in that it automatically detects the floor type and reduces rotational speed on hard floors to save energy and prolong battery life. However, in the Trfle HX2 Pro, this feature is only available on the Eco and Max power settings with the Multi-Floor XXL Electrobrush is fitted. In the box, you'll also find a crevice nozzle, dusting brush, upholstery nozzle. Staying true to its roots, the Triflex utilizes a wide nozzle at around eleven inches – more than an inch broader than other brands. The result above proves the above-average airflow that the Miele Triflex HX1 possesses. Low pile results Fortunately, it did better with other debris, but I’m pointing out that there are limitations. Battery

The Miele TriFlex HX1 doesn’t quite have the cleaning power to dislodge Dyson as king of cordless vacuum cleaners, but its adaptable layout certainly sets it apart from the crowd. While the handle placement is ideal for cleaning floors, it isn’t in handheld mode since you’ll have to carry most of the weight. So when I saw this product, I was a bit surprised, but with the growing interest in cordless vacuums, it shouldn’t come as such. Note that the vacuum's 0.5-litre dust container is small. Our upstairs wool carpets are relatively new, so we found that we were having to empty the container at least once between vacuuming that floor and the stairs and ground floor. The dust container also proved a little fiddly to empty; you need to remove the dust canister from the main unit and then twist open the lid to remove the filter and dirt. Miele utilizes a VART Li-ion battery rated at 2500 milliamps with a claimed run time of 60 minutes. This is confirmed in the cleaning results (up next), where the Triflex had nearly identical deep cleaning results in the mid and max setting. Surprisingly, it was better with shorter five and seven-inch strands but struggled with nine-inch hair.

It only has a traditional brush roll, and while Miele says it’s “multi-floor,” I wouldn’t recommend it on hard floors. Easy to empty dustbin: I like the twist to open mechanism for emptying debris. It’s easy to use, and there’s no need to touch the dirt with your fingers. The power doesn't deplete when in use, but you will notice the battery indicator light blinking for a minute-or-so before it cuts out. This is useful because it gives you just enough time to run down the stairs to find that spare battery, which you will need when vacuuming a three-bed house from top to bottom. In Australia the Miele Triflex HX2 range also includes the Triflex HX2 Performance, Triflex HX2 Racer and Triflex HX2 Cat & Dog Plus. The Miele TriFlex HX1 has a quoted battery life of up to 60 minutes with no powered brush heads in low power, and up to 17 minutes in high power mode with the powered brush head attached. Charging from empty takes a quoted four hours. In our tests, in Max mode the HX1 lasted 12mins 11secs and in low power mode it ran for 28mins 11secs; the powered cleaning head was attached and running in both tests. The overall score is skewed by its poor performance vacuuming quaker oats. Otherwise, it would have been a higher average. It actually got a higher average at the middle setting versus the max setting (92.65%), which is a head-scratcher for me, but regardless, it’s decent for this purpose.
