Grow lights don’t tend to burn unless you’ve got them too close to the plants BUT I have found that when propagating cuttings once the plant has rooted, move it further away from the light so that existing and new growth isn’t burnt. The annoying thing is, I don’t have a very bad ‘before’ picture, because I used to photograph it from its best angles. If you look to the right, you can see I have a shelving unit with mesh shelves – I have another light suspended from that, which is a great option because you can get a tonne of plants on the shelves. The Mars Hydro TS 1000W came with one ratchet hanger. Initially I tried to hang the light just using one of the clips, but this led to the light swinging round, and it was difficult to align it perfectly above my grow space. Once I had the light hanging nicely in my grow tent, it was time to test it out. I setup some planters in my grow tent and sowed seeds for a range of vegetables and salad greens. That’s enough to get your plant through all phases of growth. My Monstera adansonii is loving life under the grow light and has three to four leaves growing at anyone time. My Philodendron narrow is also growing about four. The effects of ultraviolet and infrared wavelengths on cannabis plants are well documented ³, and I’d definitely like to see those wavelengths implemented on the Mars Hydro TS 1000 and the TSW 2000 in the future. These wavelengths are already included in some other cheap LED grow lights, so including them shouldn’t be a burden on the company. Another owner told me “So far, I love it, seems to grow fast. I last used 600w MH/HPS. This is my first time with any LED light… It only gets about 5 degrees warmer than the thermostat setting. I can put my hand on the light and leave it without getting too hot.”I prepared three planters inside my grow tent. I managed to get two large square planters that fitted perfectly across the width of the grow tent, and one long trough planter. The two large planters have a built in drip tray, which is ideal to help me avoid overwatering my crops.
Full sunlight is equal to about 1000-foot candles. Regular lights will never be as bright as full sunlight and only the best grow light can come even close to these measurements. The Mars Hydro TS 1000 and the TSW 2000 LED grow lights feature a white light spectrum. White spectrum has been shown to be better than red and blue alone. In fact, one study found it resulted in 12 to 16% higher tomato yields.¹ I used standard potting compost to fill my planters and pre-soaked it with water before planting my seeds.I have about 15 under mine, but could probably fit easily twice that (it’s up against a wall, but if I hung it somewhere more centrally I could double the space). Pretty impressive. Let’s face it. Mars Hydro produces quality products. The light looks sturdy and well isolated from any humidity and I suspect it to run for a long time. This way I save the most energy and can dim the light to the amount of light necessary for optimal plant growth.
update, just bought a second one of these. Just the light for 129.99, not the kit, since I don’t need the accessories this time. Will update to say if second light is as good etc.*My plants have THRIVED under the grow light. THRIVED.
