So is it intense in flavor, smooth in taste? And more importantly is it any good? Read my review of the Jim Beam Double Oak to find out: About the Distillery Let’s start with Jim Beam’s offering. Jim Beam Double Oak bourbon is a more budget-friendly option than the Woodford Reserve Double Oak. This bourbon begins its journey as the standard Jim Beam White Label. Honestly, it’s pretty good. Jim Beam isn’t my first choice for sipping something neat but this might actually be okay. It’s smooth, tasty, and has a good weight on the tongue for being about 86 proof (43% ABV). On Ice

Jim Beam Double Oak - Ratings and reviews - Whiskybase

On the palate, the first sip brings warmth and prominent smoke, accompanied by a touch of oak char. Excerpt: I think they could have upped that richness on the palate by releasing this at least at 46% and NCF; 50% would have been even better. Regardless, the Jim Beam Double Oak is still a nice bourbon and I’ve enjoyed sipping on it ever since the bottle arrived. My journey into the world of spirits began as a pub owner, where I cultivated memorable experiences for patrons and nurtured a deep appreciation for fine liquors. It smells like any other proper bourbon, a good bit of caramel with a vanilla twist. There’s some crisp apple in there as well, which brings a bit of bitterness into the mix.Despite some rough edges, the Jim Beam Double Oak offers an intriguing experience with its smoky and oak-char profile. Surprisingly, the ice doesn’t actually change any of the flavors. Usually a bit of ice will subdue the sweeter and more subtle flavors and bring the bolder items to the front, but in this case all the ice is doing is smoothing out the whiskey even further. All in all, the nose offers a lot of depth and enough spice to balance the creamy, mellow characteristics. Speaking of spice, I’m reminded of pink peppercorns, a few powdered cloves and nutmeg, all mingled in with a soft fruitiness that leans towards baked apple.

Jim Beam Double Oak vs Woodford Reserve Double Oaked Jim Beam Double Oak vs Woodford Reserve Double Oaked

Notably, there’s a substantial difference in price between them with the Jim Beam being more affordable. However, the Woodford Reserve bourbon reigns supreme when it comes to sheer indulgence. The ice helps to mellow out harsh notes and reduce the heat, while also enhancing the sweetness and oak characteristics. My opinion:

It is first aged in charred American white oak barrels then we pour it into another freshly charred barrel to mature for a second time. The added interaction with the oak wood results in a liquid intense in flavor, smooth in taste.” I got a really weak nose form this, which reading peoples tasting notes for this is probably a little unfair. It was close to the end of the bottle by the time I got around to reviewing it (my girlfriend likes it!) so that may have negatively influenced things. I got some oak with mild vanilla notes, raisins and then some alcohol burn. It drinks warmer than what the stated proof suggests, but adding a large ice ball makes it much more enjoyable. Excerpt: It’s unique and certainly not bad, but rather one-dimensional. Then again, it might be just the thing around a fire pit on a chilly autumn night.
