About this deal

There are two versions of electric grinders; corded and cordless. As you can guess the cordless version runs on rechargeable batteries. I am not a big fan of the cordless version of this tool. The batteries add unwanted bulk to the tool. Materials that single-cut options work best in can range from ferrous metals like stainless and tool steel or cast iron, as well as aluminium and copper. Use a ball or spherical-shaped carbide burr to create concave cuts in your material or to shape and hollow out an area. Small carbide ball burrs from as tiny as 0.5mm in diameter are ideal for intricate carving projects. Many wood carvers, stone carvers and metal engravers use these carbide carving burrs in a hobby drill, micro motor or a high-speed handpiece. As we mentioned before, make sure to use a rotary handpiece that runs true. i.e with no wobble. That said, I can’t deny the fact that nothing can beat cordless die grinders when it comes to portability. If portability is more important for you, then the cordless tool is your best friend. Pneumatic Die Grinders Besides the differences in use and the materials, they work best in single and double-cut options and also are distinguished by how they operate. The first produces larger chips, so getting the finish you want may take longer. Additionally, double-cut types are easier to control with the finer cutting profiles and are the ideal type for beginners. Shapes and Sizes

What is a right angle die grinder used for? A right angle die grinder is used to work at tight spaces where the straight grinders cannot fit it. The straight version of the tool along with the cutting bit may be too long to work inside the machine and automobile parts. Simply put, a rotary burr refers to a tool or material that is specifically manufactured and designed to carry out the removal of materials in metal fabrication. While these tools are designed to rotate at a relatively high speed, they can also manipulate the materials they are working on. Flame and oval carbide burrs are ideal for rounded contouring and end milling, and countersink burrs in either 60 or 90 degrees in bevelling, countersinking and chamfering. To extend the versatility and the jobs that the bits will come in handy, buy a set of die grinder burrs in different shapes. Here is an example to illustrate. In figure.1, you can see that it is impossible to grind the hole with a straight grinder.Small carving projects with intricate detailing often require multiple burrs of different shapes, this is when a carbide burr set comes in handy.

Why not use an angle grinder instead of die grinder? Because die grinders are more precise and you have better control over the tool. An angle grinder is a large tool that is used for removing the surplus amount of material fast. They should be handled with care and are not ideal for precision works. Besides, angle grinders are not suitable to grind inside small holes. All mains-powered and cordless die grinders have an electronic safety shutdown. The motor is switched off immediately when the tool used jams. This protects user and machine from sudden reverse torque. An integrated overload protection ensures long service life of the motor. The restart protection prevents unintentional start-up of the machine after a power cut to protect the user. The handy and slim design permits safe and low-fatigue handling of the tools in any working position and thus prevents a dangerous loss of control. Die grinders with long grinding spindle have a removable protective rubber cap for comfortable and safe working. I hope you feel better informed now as to how you should use your carbide burrs, the different cuts of carbide burrs, why you should use them and what you should use them on. Helpful note: Carving Stone Long shank carbide burrs can also be found, and these are great for detailed carving in hard-to-reach areas of your work. Head Diameter sizes:However, there are some downsides to pneumatic die grinders. For starters, the fact that you have to lug around an air compressor and all that comes with it (hoses, tank, etc.) when using the tool makes it very cumbersome to use, especially if you are in a tight space. Likewise, if you don’t already own an air compressor, then getting one that is also compatible with your tool can be both expensive and a hassle. Double-cut burrs for use on non-ferrous materials and plastics tend to have wide chip space and are often referred to as Aluminum cut. Die grinders are powered in one of two ways, either electricity or air pressure. Electric Die Grinders Different uses mean the bits come with either a single or double-cutting profile. Single-cut burrs have a single cutting profile or ‘flute’ that runs from the top to the end in a spiral. This is ideal for:

Helpful notes: For drilling holes in hard metals you would need to use carbide micro drills or carbide straight shank drills. For cutting slots, routing, profiling, contouring, counter-boring, and reaming you would use a carbide end mill, carbide slot drill or a carbide router. For cutting and shaping stone or glass you would use a Diamond Burr. 1. Carbide Burrs Can be Used on Many Materials As I have mentioned a few times so far, there are different kinds of die grinders out there. In this section, I want to go over the various types that you can find when shopping for one. Straight Die Grinders

4. What Speed or RPM should you use your Carbide Burrs?

Carbide burrs are widely used for metalwork, tool making, engineering, model engineering, wood carving, jewellery making, welding, chamfering, casting, deburring, grinding, cylinder head porting and sculpting. Bits are available in a range of shapes. Choosing the right shape determines where and how the bits can be used. Go for ball burrs if you need concave or hollowed-out cuts, tree-pointed burrs when working with sharper acute angles and for rounding off edges and cylindrical burrs for smoothing and deburring flat surfaces, or when working at right angles. The answer is a bit complex. See, Dremel is a brand name, but the brand is so dominant that most people refer to the tool by the brand. A Dremel is just a rotary tool. They are similar to die grinders in terms of what the tool is used for, which is why so many people seem to consider them interchangeable. Both die grinders, and Dremel tools are used for things like grinding material, smoothing out material, sharpening things, polishing items, etc. When working with metals or metallic materials, carbide burrs are excellent tools that'll make the shaping, deburring, and enlargement of holes more seamlessly. Tungsten Carbide rotary burs are useful on all varieties of metals such as stainless steel, steel, and aluminum. Similarly, they are commonly used by engineers, engravers, contractors, and metal fabricators for making tools, jewelry, grinding, and welding. Other areas where tungsten carbide burrs are used include deburring, model engineering, and sculpting. Hardness and durability are where your typical die grinder bits run circles around everything else on offer. These things are meant to last and produce consistent results no matter what they’re used on. This will range from commonly-used metals such as stainless steel, iron, aluminium and copper, precious metals like gold and silver, and a wide range of plastics, to harder materials like ceramics, tiles, gemstones and masonry.

They are completely straight and almost resemble a sort of large screwdriver. Right Angle Die Grinders Bits attached to the end of die grinders and other rotary tools are used across a range of varying professions and fields. Most often this means anyone working with metal and wood. They are basic necessities for metalworkers, welders, smash repairers, tool makers, plumbers, and mechanics, as well as woodworkers, carpenters, joiners and construction workers. Another significant difference is how much variation there is. Dremel tools only come in one version, which is a handheld electric model. As I will go into more depth about, later on, die grinders come in two types, electric and pneumatic. So, if you already have an air compressor set up in your garage, then buying a die grinder makes more sense. There aren’t pneumatic options out there for Dremel rotary tools. When combined with the right attachment, die grinders are capable of doing a wide variety of different tasks. Die grinders are primarily meant to work with metal (specifically for Tool and Die making). But one can also use them on other, more sensitive materials like plastic and wood. Types Of Die Grinders Carbide Burrs also perform better at higher temperatures than high speed steel cutters so you can run them hotter, for longer.
