About this deal

I played in Northeast Tennessee at the base of the Smoky Mountains until my recent move to North Carolina. Courses are generally very different here than my hilly and mountainous courses in TN. Here it is flatter but requires more placement shots. Lots of dog legs and waste areas to avoid.

So, what do I want to accomplish during this testing? Well, the claims are that it should be a very good Laser Rangefinder. I decided to test the model with the slope feature. Do you want a slope feature? This will give you a second “plays like” distance number that accounts for the flag being uphill or downhill. Also worth noting, prices on these rangefinders are changing constantly. I do my best to keep this as up-to-date as possible, but do a little research before you buy to make sure you’re getting the best price. The Best Golf Rangefinders of 2023: Today’s rangefinders are so good and so accurate, that you’d be hard-pressed to go wrong with any of the models we touched on. If we didn’t trust their accuracy, we wouldn’t have mentioned them for your consideration. What rangefinder do the pros use? An introduction to me, I'm a 66-year old Geotechnical Engineer, living in the Washington DC suburbs. I’m easing into retirement, working only two days a week in the office, playing a bit more golf. I’m also becoming active as a Rules Official, volunteering with both the VSGA and the MAPGA. I've taken the USGA/PGA Rules Workshop 3 times, including in December 2022, and have scored well on the 100-quesiton exam. During testing, we put each rangefinder through the same process round to round and hole to hole. No unit in this list was pushed to do anything the others weren’t asked to do, unless a given test involved a feature one unit had over another (in the case of more expensive units testing against cheaper rangefinders). So grab your clubs and let’s dive into what makes this gadget a hole-in-one choice for golfers looking to enhance their skills on the course. Key Takeaways

The good news for golfers right now is that there are a lotof options out there for rangefinders at nearly every price point.Accuracy - I think this goes without saying. As accurate as possible is great but I also won't quibble with +/- 1 yd from 150 yds+, no way am I good enough to care about that. I also want my rangefinders to have as crystal clear and vivid of optics as possible. Cobalt Golf takes their optics/lens game serious. The lenses are made of a premium multi-coated glass and the adjustable diopter gives you a nice clean view of your target.

Cobalt Q-6 Slope Laser Rangefinder - Independent Golf Reviews Cobalt Q-6 Slope Laser Rangefinder - Independent Golf Reviews

I am pretty much a self-taught golfer and have been playing for over thirty years. I took some group lessons when I first started playing. After that I just figured things out myself with some help from golf magazines and videos. My biggest improvements in my game came from installing my simulator in conjunction with a MEVO several years ago. I got to see my swing path and ball flight info. I do get to play a decent amount of golf. Once or twice a week at my club, playing with customers, as well as golf outings for charities. I am able to play year-round. During breaks in the rainy weather over the winter I was able to put the Cobalt Q6 through its paces. I was able to see what this bad boy could do and how it put my others to shame. Was this a spoiler alert? You bet ya. When compared to other high-end golf rangefinders on the market, the Cobalt Q6 stands out accurate optics and adjustable display. Price And Feature Comparison

The Cobalt does everything its supposed to do very well. Operation is simple, one press of the button, and I get a distance for the specific spot, so I could easily get spot distances. Hold it down and move a little, I'll get the vibration and visual flash showing me the nearest thing it crossed, usually the flag (the “haptic response” mentioned previously). The response was plenty fast enough, nearly instantaneous with a single press, under a second when using the Pinsense feature. I like that the illumination for the display is adjustable, for different light conditions. The optics are excellent, very crisp with just a little adjustment. Instructions were OK, like with many products the User's Manual was online, but the instructions are clear and accurate. I can't say that the Cobalt helps me play better, but its definitely an improvement over previous models I've owned in the design and function of the controls, , the illuminated display, and the greater magnification and crispness of the optics. The two top types of rangefinders GPS and LASER can simply be explained thus: Laser rangefinders work with a technology that uses an invisible infrared laser beam to read distances, while GPS rangefinders use preloaded maps and a satellite signal to determine distance. All things being equal, most people are going to choose the Bushnell if for no other reason than that’s the company they’re familiar with, and that’s the brand they’re constantly seeing ads for. Finally, if you want to talk about Peace of Mind, their Lifetime warranty is one of the best I have seen. It reads: “Should any Cobalt rangefinder become damaged or defective such that it can’t be used, we will repair or replace it at no charge to you. The case is well-designed and sturdy, with a “horizontal” opening rather than the “vertical” arrangement I've seen with some others.
