About this deal

For the next five years I became everything I'd always despised as I made my way up from Vauxhall Conference also-ran at Banque Inutile to Premier League trader at Schiessebank (Ha ha again). I cheated on my girlfriend, I shafted my colleagues and I lied to and brown-nosed clients. But still I couldn't outdo Hugo. Overall a nice read about personal experiences in the investment banking sector, and the issues arising from the participants' incentives and their psychological drivers. It's clear the author has quite a negative recollection of his experiences during his time 'in the city', which -- from my own understanding and experiences -- ring true in more than a few instances. The negative tone throughout the book might make it less accessible/enjoyable to those with a more moderate view on the sector though. The writing style is easy and generally fun, however the 'creatives' descriptive analogies get tedious after a while in IMHO.

In 1998, the first four City Boy albums were reissued in two double-CD sets by Renaissance Records. Unable to walk for three weeks, he had plenty of time to contemplate his shallow existence. That's all been fantastic. There are a lot of different, subtle things that are going on with this character, and a lot of choices needed to be made in terms of how you visually show all of this. At different points, this character discovers and will discover different levels to his power. Each one of those different nuances has a whole other visual component to it. And it's only fair to point out that he didn't hand in his resignation until his last bonus was safely in his bank. On December 19 last year - bonus day - he was sitting on a beach in Goa, India, with a margarita in his hand when he made the call to his boss in London. A second book, Cityboy: 50 Ways to Survive the Crunch, was published in November 2008. In 2010, Anderson revealed that he was working on a third book, Just Business. It is about a man who writes an anonymous column for a London-based newspaper, breaks into his boss's computer and discovers a major crime. 'I had it all worked out. I was going to learn karate so I could defend myself and learn Spanish so I could go to South America.' City Boy is supposed to be an insider account of the filthy money and life lived by so called investment bankers. Written in a witty and sarcastic tone, the book does provide an interesting account. The interview took place in a City bar over several bottles of champagne and Anderson was hired on the spot, despite admitting: 'I didn't know anything about numbers. 'They don't care about gambling with the money of ordinary people because they're making millions. I truly believe the credit crunch is a direct result of the City's short-term gambling and the bonus culture.' However, I must also add that the book comes across as an exaggeration. Obviously having never worked as an investment analyst or a trader, I can't truly state that the book is true or false. But still many sections do come across as "over the top".
