I would have appreciated an elaboration on why the authors used the term “invisible differences,” and not “invisible disability.” Understanding and embracing disability, especially invisible disability, is empowering and helps me assert my rights and connects me to other people with shared experiences. Most importantly, it makes me question normalcy and privilege. The book seems to distance itself from the term and I just can’t imagine why. You don’t need to fix yourself to start living, to feel good about yourself, and to show the world who you are. You have ADHD and always will, which had to be okay- even if it doesn’t always feel okay- because it simply is the reality of your life. It doesn’t define you; it’s simply a description of how your brain is wired. 🤍 Hearing stories from other women who also have the same struggles as I do (messiness, running late, forgetfulness, bad habits, the list goes ON...), this book did help me feel less hopeless and more positive, thus not only embracing, but owning my ADHD. It’s something we can never actually get over or rid of. ADHD is part of who I am ... and it’s here to stay, whether I like it or not! As I read, I found myself enjoying the interactivity. Conclusion

Over the course of a lifetime, women with ADHD learn through various channels that the way they think, work, speak, relate, and act does not match up with the preferred way of being in the world. In short, they learn that difference is bad. These things have made me a more empathetic teacher to students, but I fear they’ve also made me a nightmare to supervisors, employers, administration, and even (I fear) friends and partners. I frequently thank my friends for “tolerating” me. Learning skills to manage ADHD is really important, but at the end of the day you’re still going to have ADHD. There can be so much frustration with feeling like you’re using all of the coaching techniques and still falling short of expectations. This workbook creates space to explore where those expectations come from, and what would happen if you focus a bit more on self-acceptance than on change. Women with ADHD express shame, despair, and regret about the condition of their homes (messy), their timeliness (often late), and their lists (usually long, rarely completed). Our anxiety about these issues doesn’t mirror our male counterparts. Women with ADHD are often diagnosed with anxiety or depression before getting an ADHD diagnosis.
