About this deal

You’re starting to mean a lot to me, Abigail,” he says, and because I’ve shelved the smart part of me temporarily, I just smile to myself. “Yeah, Damien."

The first was when I agreed to let her have Christmas Day off, but only if she went with me to three family gatherings as my fake girlfriend.

Damien — he was actually amazing! His type of people are just the best ones! The ones who make you feel comfortable and confident, who don't judge you for being yourself, the ones who wouldn't make you feel insecure! His character was all good, and he was just fun to be around, if you can say, and umm he's also someone who would set their boundaries and respect others too! I loved how he made Abbie feel and listened to her. ✨ I think that I could never really get around her using him like that and letting it go so far. (I never buy in to the "I tried to tell him excuse" it's weak) And the way Abbie would idolize Damien and him being a lawyer (Richard was also one) - Richard would blow her off for work to defend scumbags, but Damien? Damien only did so to take a pro bono case, he's a saint! And don't get me wrong, he was generally a good guy, but when she went all "you're helping keep the scales of justice balanced", I went full on LMAOOO because girl, he's a founding partner in an exclusive law firm, trust me, the last thing he does is helping the justice (no matter how many pro bono cases with victims of domestic violence he takes, sorry not sorry) ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Every chapter would leave me with such a giddy feeling. 𝐈 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐥𝐞𝐭 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐚 𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐲 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐛𝐜 𝐨𝐟 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐟𝐮𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐬. I need to pull it together before I do the dumbest, most unprofessional thing—fall head over heels in love with the only assistant who’s lasted more than a month at the job and claims to hate me and my moods more than she hates eggnog. The revenge plot and strong female friendships that weren't relegated to a subplot behind a romance were also a blast to read about. Overall, I do think Morgan Elizabeth made some really important points telling this story and I appreciated that, it's just that a lot of times these points were made with an unwavering subtlety of a hammer, instead of flowing naturally from the story. Other than that, Abbie and Damien's story was definitely cute, sweet and heart-warming most of the time. I really didn’t like her friend Camille? she just wanted this whole thing to go down to get closure for her fuxked up past which made me feel mixed things. Her other friend kat was alright. Also, I know it’s been a while since I’ve taken high school Spanish but isn’t “rubia” Spanish for blonde? So my assumption is that it was meant to be used as a term of endearment like “blondie” but what was being used was the word that describes someone’s hair color…so idk that’s just what I substituted every time he called her “rubia”. He might have a history with Isabelle, but this is just business. A Christmas-loving farm girl will not come between him and his ambition. That is, until he leaves her crying outside her apartment wearing a Halloween costume, having broken it off with her because she’s just not serious enough. She was just fun, he tells her – and now that Richard has become a partner at his law firm in his sights, he needs to focus on work.
