The author really has talent for capturing snapshots from obscure observations that occur around us all the time including interactions people have with each other. Of course, Ellie offers ideas. It's never entirely clear whether Ellie is alive or dead. Whether Madeline is the one alive or dead. Plenty of the holes in the story could lead readers to believe either story or explanation. Ellie isn't entirely reliable, and we know this near-immediately.

Success!

Katie refers to the library as “a safe space for stillness / and silence” (Daydreams). Why is it important to have a place that gives you a sense of safety and acceptance? What is your safe space? I'm going to discuss the plot in depth, but the nothing more than what the synopsis already tells us, though it might be slightly spoilery, it won't be enough to hide the review. Quotations subject to change as this is an uncorrected copy from Netgalley. I finished this a few of days ago, and I'm still struggling to figure out how to explain this book. Here goes nothing. Talking about death and dying is considered taboo in polite company, and even in the medical field. Our ideas about dying are confusing at best: Will our memories flash before our eyes? Regrets consume our thoughts? Does a bright light appear at the end of a tunnel? For most people, it will be a slower process, one eased with preparedness, good humor, and a bit of faith. At the forefront of changing attitudes around palliative care is hospice nurse Hadley Vlahos, who shows that end-of-life care can teach us just as much about how to live as it does about how we die. Describe Katie’s friendship with Maia. What causes their relationship to become strained? Find textual evidence that suggests that Katie regrets growing apart from Maia.

The In Between by Marc Klein | Goodreads

After bouncing around in foster homes for most of her childhood, seventeen-year-old Tessa Jacobs doesn’t believe she deserves love—not from her adoptive parents, and certainly not from anyone at school. Finding love in your fifties where technology is cut throat, body and age are main factors and where historical emotional baggage is still rife is a reality lived by many. I was immediately hooked and intrigued. The "before chapters" occur before the accident that kills Skylar and showcases Tessa and Skylar's summer romance. There are two storylines, the love story, and the ghost story.I've admired the risk and power of all his novels, but this might be the riskiest of all—so personal, so delicate and true—and I love it.' — Charlotte Wood on 7 1/2 In the end, I have learned that we cannot shun our deepest selves. Our ghosts make us who we are and who we hope to be. And like the bittersweet memories of first love, we carry these hauntings inside us, tethered irrevocably to our hearts...." Wow. This book was not what I was expecting but wow wow wow was it so much deeper and meaningful than what I was prepared for!!! Praise for Ansari and her portrayal of Cooper and Jess’s grief of their parents divorce and feelings of abandonment by their father.
