About this deal

This is a brilliant activity as it allows you as a teacher to pinpoint specific areas of weakness for your Year 5 | Year 6 class within comprehension. Johns, Andreas (1998). "Baba Yaga and the Russian Mother". The Slavic and East European Journal. American Association of Teachers of Slavic and East European Languages. 42 (1): 21–36. doi: 10.2307/310050. JSTOR 310050. James is a director and producer with over 20 years’ experience and is also Creative Director of Les Enfants Terribles Theatre Company. In this role, he co-directed the world-renowned ‘Alice’s Adventures Underground ’, a production seen by over 400,000 people which transferred from London for a two-year run in Shanghai. He has also devised, acted in and directed a number of stage shows with the company including critically acclaimed ‘The Trench’ (UK Tour), ‘The Terrible Infants’ (UK Tour, Wilton’s Musical Hall, Adelaide Fringe) and ‘The Vaudevillains’ (Charing CrossTheatre, Latitude Festival, Edinburgh Fringe). This book is a middle grade fantasy retelling of the tale of Baba Yaga, and I loved the spin this had! Rather than just the one Baba Yaga, there is a whole Yaga family, spread across the world, helping the dead pass on to the other side. The Yaga’s are not to interact with the living, for each night, they celebrate with the dead.

His experience in creating high-impact immersive events traverses theatre and includes large scale brand activations such as ‘Road to the Final ’ to celebrate Heineken’s Champions League Semi-Final in Barcelona; an event that took 10 global media influencers across land, sea and sky to arrive at the match, with coverage reaching 56 million unique users from around the globe. This was so so so good. If you love russian folklore mixed with that dark witchy atmosphere this is the perfect book for you. I absolutely devoured this book, i couldn't stop reading about it. Baba Yaga always captured me so obviously when I saw this book I immediately added it to my tbr. I am so happy the Yaga part was so present, it was fascinating. Williams, Imogen Russell (26 May 2018). "Children's and teens roundup: the best new picture books and novels". The Guardian. ISSN 0261-3077. Archived from the original on 8 June 2023 . This guided reading activity explores the descriptions used in chapter 2 when looking at characters: Marinka, Benjamin and The House.Lewis Briggs, age 11 - 'It is a beautiful story full of lots of vivid language and places, with a lovely ending.' the Russian/Ukrainian folktale character of Baba Yaga has always fascinated me, so I added this tale to my WTR list; All in all, it was a lovely piece, and though oriented towards a younger audience, it has a beautiful message about finding yourself, how death fits into the great cycle of life, and how you are never truly alone. I would encourage anyone with tweens or young teens to bring them to see the show, as it has outstanding messaging for young people. However, anyone—young or not-so-young—would be guaranteed to enjoy (and take something from) the touching production.

As always, please be respectful of each other’s opinions and be kind to each other. I completely respect and value everyone that worked on this show. We need to remember that these are people with feelings. Let’s treat them with respect. Bullying will not be tolerated and harmful language will be removed. She appears as an antagonist in the episode "Mirror, Mirror" of Lost Girl, in which she kidnaps Kenzie. Some words are written with hyphens so that they aren’t confused with other words. Hyphens can also be used if the prefix ends with a vowel and the root word starts with a vowel. Marinka čezne izbjeći sudbinu Babine nasljednice i sama odabrati što će postati u životu, no ništa ovdje nije jednostavno... The production’s fast-paced narrative is at once energetic and emotionally charged, alive with the wonders of storytelling, seamlessly transporting its audience to other worlds entirely, with a compelling blend of stage action, set changes, music, puppetry and mesmerising animation. Creative and beautiful, this is true escapism. This resource explores some of the vocabulary used in the story to give your class the opportunity to explore: root words, meanings, write other examples and origins. Sophie Anderson grew up in Swansea, studied at Liverpool University, and has worked as a geologist and science teacher. She wrote textbooks until characters from Slavic folklore began appearing in her work. Sophie has an international family and loves to write stories inspired by different folklores and cultures. Now living in the Lake District with her husband, Sophie enjoys the freedom of home schooling her three children, fell walking, canoeing, and daydreaming. Nina Dunn is an award-winning video and projection designer who has created work for a wide range of shows internationally. She is the Creative Director at PixelLux and an educator within the industry. Ever since reading about Baba Yaga in one of Andrew Lang’s collections, I have always had a fascination with the witch with iron claws who flies around in a pestle and mortar. What Sophie Anderson brings, having been inspired by her grandmother’s fairy tales, is something different. Shortlisted for the 2019 CILIP Carnegie Medal, the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize, the British Book Awards Children’s Fiction Book Of The Year, the Branford Boase Award, and the Blue Peter Book Award.
