About this deal

The SRPE33 (Samurai) and SRPE39 (Turtle) Save the Ocean Manta Ray versions share the same ocean-like blue dial with a slight difference in the position of the manta rays. Watch Lists By Style: Best Chronograph Watches | Best Digital Watches | Best Dive Watches | Best Dress/Minimalist Watches | Best Field Watches | Best Rugged/Military Watches Unlike many aftermarket companies, the parts we sell are at least as good as Seiko OEM parts, and in the case of our dials, many exceed the craftsmanship of entry level Seiko models. The Seiko SNK805/807/809 is pretty basic, but it's still a great entry into the mechanical watch world.

That’s not at all what we have here, and though I’ve passed over it on my watch searches many times, I can say now that I’d give it more than a second glance if I see it again.Due to the additional care and attention, the SRPG33 does look like the most expensive out of these three, as it should do, considering it’s double the cost of the older alternatives. When you have all three in your hands, it doesn’t feel like there should be such a divergence in price. Currently, you’re paying up to 100% more for a watch that probably feels about 30% better. The qualities that give it such a straightforward appearance are a nod to the watch’s military roots, but they’re also a great opportunity for Seiko to show off its ability to build an insanely high-quality watch and sell it for peanuts. Of course, there is also the replacement of the original shield for the newer printed 5 series icon. All surfaces and angles on the case, dial, hands, and indices must be flat and geometrically correct to optimally reflect light. This year marks Grand Seiko's 60th anniversary, and with it comes renewed attention on the company's heritage. The aforementioned Grammar of Design, by renowned Taro Tanaka, is at the heart of the Grand Seiko history.

You’re not getting the most water-resistant timepiece. The SNK807 can only handle 100 feet (30 meters)underwater. You’re advised to not swim with it on. A dunk or two is fine. Considering how wet its strap will get, dunking the watch may not be a good idea. The sharp hands are fully lumed, and the second hand is lumed on its counterweight with a flash of red on the pointer end. The watch serves as an ideal everyday timepiece that can be worn with a variety of clothes and on a variety of events. Seiko 5 SNK805 Dial The circles and printed numbers on the dial are reminiscent of pilot watches. This, again, goes very well together with the military style. Seiko 5 SNK805 case According to specifications, the watch can handle pressure up to 100 feet or 30 meters. Note that this is static pressure, which is not the same as 30 meters beneath the surface in practice. With that said, the watch can handle water splashes. Some owners have tried swimming with it and have reported good results, However, we wouldn’t recommend swimming with it. The water resistance isn’t the most impressive, but let’s not forget this is neither a dive watch nor an expensive watch. While Tanaka's Grammar of Design is well-known among watch collectors, it's equally vital to grasp the greater historical context in which it arose. Grand Seiko's wristwatches may be correctly appreciated as works of art alongside other kinds of artistic expressions in Japan's rich cultural history. There is lume on its markers, but it’s not that bright. There is lume on its hands too. You definitely can’t swim with it on. The SNK803 can only withstand 100 feet (30 meters) underwater. Like its brother, brief splashes are fine. The case of the Seiko 5 SNK805 has a rugged look thanks to its matte finish. Would the case be polished, it would lose a lot of its tool-like character and appear more like a classy everyday watch. A good choice by Seiko. The sides, on the other hand, are polished, which creates a nice contrast, and gives the watch a greater perception of quality and being well-finished.

While many Swiss brands play it conservative, Seiko produced dials over the past few decades that are playful, and feature an amazing array of design concepts. Over the years Seiko defined what it meant to blend creativity and craftsmanship – while still maintaining the functionality of a dial. Both the minute and hour hands are sword shaped. They help the watch to be both easy to read at a distance, and also allow precise timekeeping if needed. My personal thoughts on the Seiko 5 SNK805 are overwhelmingly positive. This is a lightweight, yet durable watch that is incredibly comfortable, contains effortless style, and somehow transcends a lot of different price levels. It fits within that weird window of prior generation Seiko watches that somehow get a knowing nod from Seiko-philes and high-end watch wearers alike. Each hour marker is accented by a seconds counter that steps up by five for each hour, all the way to 60 seconds. That’s a classic pilot’s watch feature, and though it makes the SNK809’s dial much busier, it fits within the overall aesthetic. These two divers’ special editions were conceived to celebrate Seiko's sponsorship of the Save the Ocean project. The dials are designed to look like the sea through a patterned blue degradé ocean scene with a family of charming manta rays swimming across the deep blue dial. At first look, the Grand Seiko SBGA211 Snowflake appears to be similar to many others, but closer examination reveals a lot more if you want to dive deeper.
