About this deal

Ignoring for a moment its wireless incompatibility, the Razer Wolverine Ultimate is, in nearly every way, shape and form, a better controller than the Xbox Elite.

Putting aside cable issues I often preferred the Razer Wolverine Ultimate to the Xbox Elite if only for some of the minor improvements like a lighter feel and those extra buttons. Whether the Wolverine Ultimate is worth it for you comes down to your wallet, needs, and expectations, but overall Razer has created a fine – and in some ways better – alternative to Microsoft's high-end Xbox controller and that's not bad at all. The Razer Synapse software also lets you assign and store profiles to the controller for your favorite games, something that PC gamers are used to with high-end gaming mice. Razer Wolverine Ultimate – pricey, but worth it (for some) The Razer Wolverine Ultimate has only one audience in mind: the really hardcore, couch-based gamers. It’s not ideal if you’re sitting further than 10 feet away from your monitor or TV or necessary for those who enjoy single-player campaigns more than they enjoy the thrills of online competition.

Controller-fied Chroma

The controller does not come with a Bluetooth function. However, it works with PCs (Windows 10 and above) that have a free USB port. The Razer Wolverine V2 has rounded bumper grips while the other two controllers are slightly sharper (though still blunt enough to be comfortable for your palm). The Razer Wolverine V2 has 2 remappable multi-function buttons, while the TE has 4 multi-function buttons, and the Ultimate has 4 multi-function triggers.

Weighing in at 260 grams (0.57lbs) the Wolverine is significantly lighter than the Xbox Elite controller with batteries (348 grams or 0.77lbs). While heavier weight is often associated with a more premium feel, I'd argue that a lighter controller after a few hours is easier to use. Experience THX Spatial Audio, an advanced surround sound app with pinpoint positional accuracy that brings you the competitive advantage in any game. Take your immersion to new heights with THX Game Profiles that transform your gaming soundscape with custom-tuned profiles for all your favorite games—or personalize your EQ settings for just the right balance of highs, mids, andlows. For 2D and retro-style games, the Wolverine Ultimate can take a bit of getting used to. The four-button circular pad's individual buttons are a bit too stiff to precisely control directions in platformers, while the plus-shaped directional pad feels awkwardly shallow. The face buttons also feel shallow, which makes them quite responsive but loses some of the satisfying, near-mechanical feel you get from buttons with longer throws. I eventually got used to the direction pad and face buttons for platforming in Guacamelee 2 and dungeon exploring in Moonlighter, but neither aspect feels quite as solid as the Xbox Elite Series 2 or Astro C40's direction pads and face buttons. Too Pricey to Keep the Cable The Wolverine can be programmed in part using its physical controls, but to get the most out of it you’ll have to use Razer’s Synapse software. Synapse is available on PC and Xbox One, and offers a pretty much identical set of features on both platforms – although the PC version has a slightly more intuitive UI.Its wireless incompatibility. This controller isn’t built for casual gamers, nor is it really designed for the hardcore crowd should they ever find themselves playing anything other than competitive multiplayer games. Final verdict Featuring wonderfully responsive controls, a wealth of mappable custom keys and paddles, and a rugged design that will survive the occasional rage throw, the Wolverine Ultimate is a perfect buy for any competitive PC or Xbox One gamer. As a side note, I heard that the extra two top buttons are the least reliable part of the controller.

Paired with the best gaming-grade peripherals, Razer’s software platforms provide an immersive gaming experience to over 100 million users.

The controller has an integrated battery, which is a nice addition, but I am afraid that it will start lasting fewer hours over time as it can’t be changed.

Plus, don’t forget that the gorgeous strip of Chroma RGB lighting is exclusive to Razer's svelte gamepad. We disliked I think that Xbox controllers are the best option also for PC users because they became the standard and work flawlessly in any game.

PDP (all the Xbox controller variants) is another suggested budget controller. I have no direct experience with it, but from the info I could get their situation is similar to PowerA. Custom high-tier controllers Overall, I have no significant complaints about the design of the Razer Wolverine Ultimate. It borrows heavily from the Xbox Elite controller but also improves upon it in some areas like the rear triggers (instead of paddles) that do not fall off, configurable vibration, and abilities to tweak performance via the Razer Synapse app for the Xbox One. Razer Synapse for the console There are lots to choose from, but for this list, we've rounded up the very best multiplayer games available on the PS5 right now.
