Now, for the first time ever, you can get the incredible scientific world of Pokémon in print in a high-quality, fully illustrated, unofficial guidebook, designed to help people of all ages understand the power that's inside! Patrons get access to scientifically labeled editions of these anatomical and technological deconstructions that identify body structures and organs. stars. The content is generally good as the author explores a vast array of biological concepts that are nicely applied to each monster. Some make sense, and some don't but everything should be taken lightly anyway as this is not canon and absolutely fictional. Some Pokemon entries were interesting (ie the Gastly line) and some were disturbing (ie Chansey's). A lot were just meh and a drag to read but needless to say, I applaud all the effort given for this project. Drawing them is not the difficult part, the challenge for me is conceptual,” Stoll told Bored Panda. “I spend a lot of my time with the project trying to create fictional anatomy that is both interesting and plausible. A lot of Pokénatomy is based on the behavior and biology of real-world organisms. So for the sake of the project, I’ve found myself thumbing through books on botany, herpetology, metaphysics, and even embryology.”

The biologist and illustrator is working on volume two of his guide to Pokémon anatomy, also known as PokéNatomy. His new illustrations reveal fresh insights about characters not included in volume one. According to Chris, the original post on imgur went viral, resulting in hundreds of letters from teachers and parents who wanted to buy the illustrations to help their kids and students learn. Now that we know how Poké Balls work, it may be hard not to consider these anatomical insights next time you’re playing Pokémon GO.A lot of the original Pokémon are based on real-world organisms, so I always start a Pokénatomy piece by researching their inspiration. For the sake of the project, I’ve found myself thumbing through books on botany, herpetology, exotic fish, and even embryology. Once I feel that I have a grasp of the basic biology, I begin to tease out the more fantastical elements. What inspired you to do this project? Have you been interested for a while in the mix between the scientific and the fantastical? I’ve always had a love of biology and the natural world, and much of Pokénatomy’s inspiration came from my previous work, the anatomical art-book bestiary A Natural History of the Fantastic. It’s sort of Gray’s Anatomy meets Lord of the Rings, and lays out the biology and behavior of classic fantasy creatures like dragons, harpies, unicorns, and centaurs. Favorite/Most interesting evolutionary chains: Bulbasaur, Magnemite, Voltorb, and my husband's favorite was Scyther. I imagine that a lot of imagination has to go into this. When describing the Pokémon, how much of this was your imagination versus research that went into the Pokémon world?
