Benchmarks were impressive but, again, not the best indicator of day-to-day performance. On Geekbench 5, a suite of tests that quantifies raw performance, the Pixel 6 easily beat similarly priced competitors. It scored 1,021 single-core (SC) and 2,813 multi-core (MC). For comparison, the Pixel 5a scored 680 SC and 1,952 MC, while the Galaxy A52 managed 645 SC and 1,945 MC on the same test. Android 12 and Future Support It’s not a let-down, as many flagship phones do the same, but getting a 4x telephoto zoom is the biggest reason to upgrade to the Pixel 6 Pro. Still, the Pixel 6 easily ranks among the best Pixel phones, and even among the best smartphones. That said, with the Google Pixel 7 fast approaching its days near the top might be numbered. There’s no optical zoom available here then, as there is on the Pro model, but the Pixel 6’s ‘Super Res Zoom’ does deliver a 7x digital zoom. It worked relatively well on the shot of the river above — the moving water has indeed been blurred. The leaves that overlap the water from the camera’s perspective were even preserved pretty well. But the second photo had people walking through the frame, and it sort of made them look like ghosts. That’s not necessarily a bad thing; real long exposures would behave the same way. But it’s something to look out for. Still, Google’s AI photo magic applied to images from that jumbo camera sensor with artificially large pixels does make for excellent photos across just about every lighting condition. Excessively noisy low-light photos from the primary camera are a rarity, and in good light, a deft photographer could easily get frame-worthy photos out of this thing.

While the Pixel 6's cameras may have their faults, you will have trouble finding a better setup on any similarly priced Android phone in the US. Ultimately, the phone is capable of excellent shots with some minor tweaks and adjustments. Midrange Android Excellence While it's not surprising that the Google Pixel 6 takes great photos given how much its predecessors have been capable of, the Pixel line has been doing wonders with 12MP cameras for years – and we wondered what Google's new phone could do with its 50MP main camera and Tensor chipset. Really, the biggest reason I can think of not to buy a Pixel 6 right now is that the Pixel 6a could be announced as early as Google I/O, and we're expecting it to be very similar to the full-fat version — only smaller and with an older camera sensor. Assuming it's priced similarly to previous Pixel a phones, it sounds like an incredible deal. Until it's official, that's all conjecture — but it might be worth it to wait it out with your current phone for a little while longer anyway, if you're able. The latest Windows 11 update won't install for some users, and tanks gaming performance even if it does The Pixel 6’s other key specs are respectable, with 8GB of RAM and either 128GB or 256GB of storage. As noted before, it’s only the 128GB model that comes in the Kind Coral hue.

It appears Google has joined other phone makers in the war on e-waste, so you’ll need to source one yourself. Other improvements within Android 12 include changes to widget settings, a one-handed mode and a new AppSearch feature. This allows you to search for stuff within an app in the phone’s settings menu, rather than launching the app itself. The Samsung Galaxy S22 is the highest profile Android alternative to the Pixel 6, since it's the bottom entry in Samsung's latest flagship line. It costs a little more and is more powerful, but the Pixel's software has it beat, and Google's phone has a more distinctive design.
Design: One of a kind, at a price
Yes. I think the Pixel 6 is the best phone Google's ever built. It punches above its weight in nearly every way: performance is great, build quality is very good, and the cameras positively rip.

We can at least be relieved that Google likely won’t repeat the mistake of hobbling its new phones with inadequate battery life. The Google Pixel 6 has a 4,614mAh capacity, up from the 4,080mAh of 2020’s Pixel 5, and far above the measly 2,800mAh in the Pixel 4. Face Unblur can remove the blur from a face in motion if the camera can recognize the face and it isn't too blurred . Again, it can't work miracles.
The Pixel 6’s 6.4-inch OLED display is the biggest screen included on a Pixel phone, with the exception of the Pixel 6 Pro with its 6.7-inch screen, topping even the 6.3-inch Google Pixel 4 XL from 2019. The Full HD Plus 2400 x 1080 resolution here (so not QHD) equates to 441 pixels per inch, which is on a par with other phones around the price (and even with some pricier options such as the Samsung Galaxy S21). The Pixel 6’s new “Face Unblur” feature also works tremendously well. When it detects a face in the frame while shooting in portrait mode, the ultrawide camera captures an image with a faster shutter speed than the primary lens as soon as you press the button.
