The Genius 8000 launched as a cut-down, value version of the original Genius 9000 brush, and it still feels like a high-end toothbrush despite its price. It also gives an excellent clean, with a choice of six brush modes and three brush heads – CrossAction, 3D White and Sensitive – to cover a wide range of dental needs. Its Lithium-Ion battery still needs charging overnight but will last for over an hour of brushing from there on in, which should cover you for a couple of weeks. After spending 12 years in consumer technology, it was in 2014 that he focused his attention on dental health, having experienced first-hand the challenge of choosing a new toothbrush. Within the front silver/blue panel is the power button, that turns the brush on and off, the cleaning mode button which when pressed changes the cleaning option you have selected. So, time to talk about one of the biggest features and selling points for this brush, the app and Bluetooth connectivity.
Oral-B has added value to the iO9 by including two additional brush heads for a total of four. The iO8 meanwhile, now comes with three brush heads in total. If you are not a big smartphone user it might be difficult for you to get in a routine of using the app. If your smartphone is always attached to you, no doubt you will find it easier.

It has been on Oral-B SmartSeries for some time but has been given more focus when the Genius range was introduced. The Smart 6 does connect to the Smart Guide which I have just bought, but I had to change enable the settings on the toothbrush using the Oral B app. In the settings->toothbrush handle->Enable Smart Guide there is a switch which needs to be on and has to be synchronised with the toothbrush. Then pressing the h/min button on the SmartGuide for 3 seconds on the toothbrush with the SmartGuide successfully enables connection to the Smart Guide. An accessory I loved that comes provided with the older SmartSeries 6000 and 6500, but not the Smart 6 is the Smart Wireless Guide. The biggest benefit is that it makes it much easier to switch between the brushing modes or see which one you have selected. Those models with a display will show a notification on the screen. If connected to the Oral-B app, a notification will be displayed here too for compatible models.
Preferably I want it to last as long as possible without needing a charge. However, 95% of the time my brush lives at home within close range of the charging stand and there is no reason why it could not be charged more frequently.All of the iO Series brushes have a 2 minute timer, pacer and pressure sensor. These are the key features that dentists recommend. What sets them apart are additional features. Examples include more brushing modes, in-handle display and ‘smart’ (Bluetooth) technology. These are nice-to-have, but not critical. iO models command a price premium, particularly when you factor in replacement brush heads. You don’t need a premium model to clean your teeth well. We like to offer up a figure for what we believe to be an average cost of ownership of this toothbrush. So I present an example here based on the more typical ‘average’ price. Be aware this will fluctuate, but it at least gives you an idea.
