About this deal

MORE : 10 first-date disaster stories that will make you feel better about your shambolic love life I do not want to like this story because I did not like any of the characters. All are malignant and cancerous pulling down everyone around them. I mean what happened to good ol' friendships !! And the worst part are the clueless partners. I mean surely they can't get away with all this disloyalty ! The first half was like a huge mess and towards the second half, the mess kind of filtered the extra mess and we were left with absolute disaster in the end, and I say it with a good intention. I did not expect that end though ! It doesn’t surprise me to learn your IQ is genius-level. But it’s what you do with that intelligence that makes me smile every time I think of you. Shortly before my wife and I got married, I admitted to being bisexual and a cross-dresser. I have always been very feminine. We deal here with the repercussions of these secrets, hidden attractions and downright deceitfulness, throw in some mental illness and its really just a cauldron of catastrophe waiting to explode dramatically.

I love the way your mind works. You know how to combine our ideas to create something both of us love even more. It’s one thing if he disagrees with you. That much happens even in happy marriages. But if he’s insulting you to your face and then repeating those insults when he talks about you to other people, there’s a problem. Here are some examples of disrespectful comments: This is a delicious read. It is not suspenseful. It is twisty. Unexpected. Dramatic. And this won't be the last book by Caroline England that I read. The more I know you, the more painful it is to imagine my life without you. As long as I can be a big part of your life — and you a big part of mine — life is good.

You’re in the same place, but he seems allergic to your company. He keeps finding something (or someone) else to occupy his time and attention. And when you finally corner him with a question or comment, he seems anxious to get away. He used to go to flattering extremes to impress you or just to get your attention. He went out of his way to make you feel as though you, more than anyone, dominated his thoughts. You own the entire property together – known as joint tenants. This means the whole property would go to your partner if one of you were to die. Your tax, benefit claims and pension might change depending on your relationship with the person who died.

I’m not sure I can afford to stay

Both CE and Caroline write multi-layered, dark and edgy ‘domestic suspense’ stories that delve into complicated relationships, secrets and the moral grey area. You thought he’d be relieved to see you, just as you would be if he were unusually late. But he seems to enjoy his own company more than yours. Your presence is an interruption. What I like most is the feeling of helplessness. I guess that’s the turn-on, watching my girlfriend being taken by another man in front of me.

Sadly the book does end slightly on a cliffhanger but it is very well hinted at what does happen, it's just never confirmed. I’ll make the husband bring me beer, then I’ll proceed to drink it with his wife sitting on my lap. Sex-wise though, it’s about sating the wife’s need for a proper man. You can’t remember the last time he asked if you were in the mood. The last time you tried to surprise him with some new lingerie, he barely noticed. And when he finds you in bed, he shows zero interest in getting cozy with you. What Caroline England does so well in her books is to really bring her characters to life. This is definitely a slow burner of a plot but it’s the characterisation that keeps you pushing through the narrative, desperate to uncover the life stories of her protagonists. The characters aren’t always very likeable and sometimes you will be despairing of the choices that they are making, but in the end you just want to be able to see them happy. Dan especially was a favourite of mine and the relationships he had were painfully breathtaking to go through with him.

My partner is abusive

Your attention is no longer something he wants. 16. He forgets your birthdays and anniversaries and doesn’t seem to care. I loved the way the friends and their family knew each other, interacted together. Even though they’ve known each other all these years there are things they certainly don’t know about each other. Little things, and big, massive, huge things! My heart beats for you, my love. You are the reason why I wake up every morning with a smile on my face. This is my first experience of this author's work - and I'm quite surprised to find out it's only her second novel. This is a really accomplished piece of writing, and not one to be forgotten easily. I have found myself rooting for just about everyone at sometime or another. This is an eye-popping and breathtaking read, and one I'm so glad to have added to my list. As soon as I can fit it in, the first novel will be on my kindle too! In my opinion, this is quite a masterpiece and as such I completely recommend it. For me the title didn't really fit with the story as it wasn't one husband that was lying. They all was lying. From Affairs, sexuality confusion, mental health the whole book was based on lies and deceit.
