So here’s the recipe for Krupnik, or Krupnikas, as I make it these days. Despite it being a little bit different from how I watched Anya making it, I’ve named it Anya’s Krupnik, because that’s how it’s known in our home, even after all these years! To start with, you need to know that Poles can make vodka out of everything, including candies and milk. However, the most popular ones are made of grain, potato, or corn. Every traditional Polish vodka has 40% ABV (alcohol by volume). The flavored ones are a little bit ‘lighter’ with ABV ranging between 30% to 40%. When you drink it, you’ll understand why, it is warming and it is soothing; no wonder then that it is the Polish and Lithuanian equivalent of the hot toddy, for curing colds!

If you want to try different flavors, such as Polish cherry vodka or Polish lemon vodka, go for Soplica or J.A.Baczewskiif you want higher quality. A shot of vodka that you need to drink as a punishment (usually for being late or pretending that you are drinking when you are really not) The most popular is plain Sobieski vodka, however, there are different flavors available including: Original Chopin vodka is made of potato spirit, however, there are also rye and wheat versions available.
