The choice of a perfume has as much to do with the regional culture as with one’s preferences. The dog smelled like it, the baby smelled like it, and it was so strong it even made it's way into the food that it tasted like it. When we went out to dinner, forget my perfume, the ever so angelic Nina Ricci L'Air du Temps......you smelled the dark gray cloud of Kouros covering up the sky, like the devil eclipsing the sun ....lolEurope, and you just went to one of those dirty public toilets, you know with those soaps that look like they've been sitting there for 10 years? Dry, chipping away, just the cheapest, nastiest soap imaginable. This fragrance is my most worn fragrance for 20 years. He's been with me since I was a kid in my eighties. Deeply rooted in my limbic system since it was very popular at that time. For my childhood nose, he was also the epitome of perfume for a man. I recently bought some vintage bottles of Kouros, 1 x 10ml 1981 or 82 and 5 X 50ml 1999. I haven't yet received the 1981 but will update once I have, though upon smelling the 1999 and wearing it a number of times, I think a very, very similar effect can be achieved with a good base layer of sak pase and a top layer of the man silver, getting the best of both worlds. There is a slight difference which I think comes from the drydown of the man silver, but the honeyed musks really come through from the sak pase, so you have an almost authentic (though actually stronger projecting) scent at a fraction of the price. From what I have read from others who describe the very early Kouros, I wonder if they actually might be closer than this comparison. We will see. Tame performance and hollow middle stage keep it from reaching the yesteryear greatness. Young folk will find it more accessible, while perfume aficionados are probably praying that the next reformulation still retains what’s good in this one.I wore this perfume when it came out, and it must be said that at the time it was overwhelming compared to what was intended for men, the banal eau de toilette fleeting as if the masculine class dared to wear perfume but be careful, not like the women with their perfumes announcing their arrival. This is a creative mixture of very aromatic metal old-fashioned soap, honey, powder, animal ,flowers,smoke,clove,patchouli ...i don't know about the vintage but the new versions smell like old urine
