About this deal

This story follows the uncertainty of the hotels future, Megs love of the beautiful old building, her often thwarted attempts to entice more guests and bring the building up to date without spoiling it's integrity, of Meg and Justin gradually falling in love, the heartbreak when she leaves for France, the love and support of her brilliant close band of friends. One Enchanted evening is everything you need in a novel when the weather outside demands you snuggle under a blanket with a good book.' I think I have read pretty much all of Katie Fforde's books, and though this wasn't my favourite, it was still an easy read. Thank you for many hours of reading your books. I have reread nearly all again with such pleasure. Reply Katie Fforde does an excellent job of painting beautiful descriptions of scenery throughout the story - readers will feel like they're right there with Meg whether she is in the delightful Dorset countryside or the rolling hills of Provence.

The characters in One Enchanted Evening are fantastic - each one is unique and lovable in their own way. I especially adored Ambrosine - she has such a big heart that you can't help but root for her throughout the novel. Her relationship with Meg was delightful and very special which made the story even better and it was wonderful to catch up with characters from past books. This novel makes you through several love story's and there is some well build friendship circle and her family and that of Justin's family. Aside from that, and once it got going, I enjoyed the story, had a good time with the renovations and the cooking. 3.5 stars What I thoroughly loved about this story was the twist though, especially as it involved my favourite character. It added a little bit of mystery to the book, and it wove beautifully through the romance without seeming like a side quest.

A French Affair

Set in the 60s, Meg is called to her mother's workplace to help out. It is a quaint hotel that is barely breathing, with the opening of a newer, more modern hotel nearby, complete with ensuite bathrooms and a highly-rated chef as the owner. Meg falls in love with the hotel, despite the fact it needs some work doing on it, none of the rooms have bathrooms, the decor is dated. But it’s not long before Meg starts having ideas as to what they can do to This time, the focus is on Meg as she agrees to support her mother with caretaking a Dorset hotel in the owner’s absence. Despite having a confirmed opportunity to experience a professional kitchen in a French restaurant, Meg takes control of the hotel’s kitchen even though the owner’s son views her through misogynistic eyes. There is clearly no love lost between Meg and the rather pompous Justin, and tempers become frayed as he continually undermines her skills. Any issues with the book list you are seeing? Or is there an author or series we don’t have? Let me know!

One Enchanted Evening - Penguin Books UK

On reading this book, it's easy to see why Katie has had such a great writing career; One Enchanted Evening is a book which many many people will enjoy. And what an enchanting evening it was! Then Justin, the son of the hotel owner, appears, determined to take over the running of the kitchen. I have to admit that I was concerned going into this one as it's set in the 1960s and I'm not usually a fan of historical fiction... (although there's a debate about what counts as historical and to me it's before 1980, how about you?) However, I loved it so much more than I thought I would! All across the USA, people are showing up dead. The deaths don't appear to be connected in any way until one particular death occurs and gets the Secretary of Defense's attention. He arranges for a task force to investigate.

Meg and Justin are a brilliant couple, I loved how now matter how hard he tried he couldn’t not love her, not help but appreciated her cooking and admit she was excellent at what she did. Louise and Andrew were a lovely couple too, the mother daughter relationship was written really well, especially with the age difference not huge. Meg longs to be a professional cook, but in 1964 the idea of a female chef running a kitchen is considered ridiculous. Undaunted, she has plans to travel to France and work on her already impressive skills to chase her dream of becoming a pastry chef. Writer of a number of romance novels, British author Katie Fforde was born on the 27th of September, 1952, as Catherine Rose Gordon-Cumming. Growing up in Wimbledon, London, she spent the majority of her upbringing in the city, something which helped inform much of her later work. With her sister Jane Gordon-Cumming a famous writer as well, her fate as an author was sealed with her passion for literature established early on.

One Enchanted Evening - Hardback (2023) – Katie Fforde

Meg has always wanted to be a professional cook; she has an internship set up in France, but it isn’t time to go yet and restaurants are still generally a man’s world where women aren’t welcome. She gets a call to help her mother who is running the beautiful Nightingale Woods Hotel in Dorset and urgently needs a cook. While helping her mother she meets Justin, the owner's son, a chef himself who isn’t happy having a woman in his kitchen! This is the first time I've ever read anything by Katie Fforde, although I am of course familiar with the name and the kind of books she writes. Red your book Thea came out in April could you please tell me when the next one will be out rereading all Reply
