About this deal

Mike Bernier is the lead content writer and founder of Arcane Eye. He is a Adamantine best-selling author of Strixhaven: A Syllabus of Sorcery on DMs Guild and is a contributing author at D&D Beyond. As for encounter tables, they aren’t separated by CR, meaning they’re not particularly useful for preparing a combat encounter. They also have an arbitrary “Attitude” mechanic thrown in that would be hard to account for if you were simply rolling to generate an encounter. The gigant already ranks among the largest flying monsters found in all of Dungeons & Dragons, somehow rivaling even ancient dragons in sheer scale. It may seem unrealistic for an insect this big to properly fly, yet it can, and even giants fear it. According to the lore and art, gigants can casually seize hill giants like insectile eagles and make off with them. However, in my opinion, I prefer setting sourcebooks, like Mythic Odysseys of Therosor Van Richter’s Guide to Ravenloft, to monster-focused supplements such as these.

Editor's Note: On August 4, we became aware that an artist used AI to create artwork that appears in Bigby Presents: Glory of the Giants and that previously appeared in this article.Read our statement on the use of AI here. Admittedly, they have some interesting non-combat encounters thrown in there, which is good for when you want to express to your party that not all monsters they encounter need slaying. This helmet's second effect is to cast a powerful elemental bolt at an enemy for a bonus action per turn. Finally, the Helm of Perfect Potential lets the wearer spend charges to cast spells like Elemental Weapon and Wall of Fire. RPGBOT uses the color coding scheme which has become common among Pathfinder build handbooks, which is simple to understand and easy to read at a glance. Is that an earthquake? Or are massive footsteps approaching? Bigby Presents: Glory of the Giantsbrings a vast library of giant lore and character options to your game! Among the various types of giants, including cloud giants, fire giants, frost giants, hill giants, stone giants, and storm giants, there exists a structured social hierarchy known as the ordning. Each giant is assigned a rank within this caste system, determining their social standing and relationships with others. Some giants dedicate their lives to excelling in the qualities valued by their society, seeking to rise within the ordning.

DnD Glory of the Giants review – strong but slim | Wargamer

To add further variety, Giants also aren’t the only creatures you’ll run into. Glory of the Giants introduces plenty of Giant-adjacent creatures, from elementals to humanoids to Giant geese and tics. Existing Giants in the Monster Manual also get new variants to keep things fresh (many of which involve cults, rune magic, or the undead). The bestiary is the real treasure at the heart of this book, with over 70 DnD monsters to work with. Shield of the Blazing Dreadnought is a powerful magical item found in Bigby Presents: Glory of the Giants. It's a legendary shield that provides the usual +2 to AC and a whole lot more, starting with not just fire resistance, but fire immunity that can be activated with a bonus action. The shield can also burn away one target's disease or condition, including blinded, charmed, defeaned, or poisoned.

Bigby Presents: Glory of the Giantsdelves into the ancient history of one of the primordial empires on the Material Plane, the legendary giants. The book sheds light on the giants’ ordning—the hierarchical structure of their civilization—as well as their religious beliefs and societal organizations across different realms. Since it's been delayed, I imagine they're just going to release once ready. They can't release earlier (obviously) and later screws the schedule, so they'll just release ASAP - they're no longer timing it with relation to Phandelver. Zephyr Armor is a set of light armor that can appear in three varieties: padded, leather, and studded leather. Most likely, classes like bard, rogue, and ranger will wear this armor, especially at lower levels. Zephyr Armor provides better bonuses than AC, though, since its true protective power involves sheer evasion. The wizard Bigby personally crafted this magical bracelet, and like most artifacts, it will have an assortment of randomly chosen properties, some positive, some negative. Aside from that, this excellent magical item allows the user to cast a variety of useful spells outside of combat, starting with Mage Hand, a spellcaster staple. Evil Water cultists fit incredibly well into a seafaring campaign, either as a baddie to face off against at the end of a quest or even as a particularly brutal enemy that emerges during a random encounter. Imagine your players’ surprise when one of these harpoon-bearing brutes rises up from under the tides. Olhydra’s goal is to flood the world and plunge it all into her nightmarish, icy depths, a scenario the party would likely wish to avoid by defeating her brutal servants. Frostmourn

The only issue I see with most of this information is giants will have to be a huge part of your campaign for you to start worrying about how many giants live together in a settlement versus a steading. Vigor of the Hill Giant is one of several new feats in Bigby Presents: Glory of the Giants that branches off from the Strike of the Giants feat. That means a player must first get Strike of the Giants at level 4, then take feats like Vigor of the Hill Giant.

The “Invoking” system they’ve come up with is pretty neat. Essentially, each magic item has a passive ability, but you can also invoke the rune inscribed on the item to produce a once-a-day effect that recharges at the next dawn. This makes for interesting resource management, but be careful with these items. They could easily skew the power level of your players if you’re playing in a campaign that doesn’t frequent multiple encounters per day. Giant Bestiary One of them is a free longer adventure, Lost Mine of Phandelver, L1-5, the others are "one-shot" adventures, intended to be played and completed in a single session. A pre-existing frostmourn would work well as an encounter in a game set in the frozen north, amidst a horror-themed survivalist adventure like Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden, for example. But the true fun of the frostmourn is the ability to set it up if you have a party that likes being particularly sneaky or dishonorable. If you know your party is one that might find some clever way of defeating a frost giant without facing them directly in battle, having the frostmourn return later in the campaign seeking vengeance would be an excellent twist. The four Prehistoric Figurines of Wondrous Power can be a lot of fun in any D&D campaign setting, especially one with enough forests or jungles for dinosaurs to stomp around comfortably. These magic items may look like children's toys, but their power must be respected, since they can totally change the game. D&D has had figurines before, but certainly not on this power level.
