About this deal

Ghost Bird is a highly engaging, on edge and thrilling read. The story follows Stacey, a teenage girl whose twin sister goes missing. The novel gives perspective to Aboriginal cultures and I found the novel to be insightful, relateable and a great read! I loved the character of May and the character development of Stacey (the main protagonist). The novel was well written and immersive. a b c d e Cohn-Haft, M (1999) "Family Nyctibiidae (Potoos)". in del Hoyo, J.; Elliot, A. & Sargatal, J. (eds). Handbook of the Birds of the World. Sang just wanted a little space. She wanted out of the house, to have a little freedom before school started. She hadn't thought about the local wildlife. And she certainly hadn't planned to come face-to-face with a wolf. Great potoos clean their feathers by using their legs to scratch up and above their wings. This makes them different from other birds that bring up their legs below their wings.

After listening to the presentation, White River refuge manager Larry Mallard looked at Martjan Lammertink. “Martjan,” he said, “we have a saying around here that you can’t be just a little bit pregnant. So tell me: Are we pregnant, or are we not?” This was a spooky YA horror/mystery novel infused with Indigenous Australian mythology that got me genuinely scared in the second half of the book (yes I did the classic Rachel fail of reading creepy horror books at night again WHY do I do this). 3.5 stars.

It measures 1 – 2 inches and is usually white with gray, brown or dark purple spots. It’s a subtle but significant variation that can be used to distinguish great potoos from other species while bird-watching. 25. What superstitions surround the great potoo? The great potoo is native to Central and South America. If you look at a distribution map, you can see that its range extends from southern Mexico to southeastern Brazil. Their population is on a downward decline, but it isn’t considered serious enough to merit any action; great potoos cover a broad range and aren’t being fragmented by habitat loss, so their overall species is a stable one even if their numbers are decreasing. 13. What do great potoos eat?

Stacey is an intelligent and considerate young lady, she has the utmost respect for her elders, her mother and her large, fiercely protective family. Laney pushed boundaries, defying their mother and the educational system that favours white students, Indigenous students ignored and their education seen as secondary and an indication of how the white Eidsvold community thrive on racism and ignorance. David Sibley isn’t completely gloomy, though. He says that as long as the situation “doesn’t blow up into some conspiracy theory or scandal that’s going to damage conservation, I think that in the long run some good will come out of it. I have a lot of faith in people and our ability to move on from things like this. I think that the attention that has been focused on the Big Woods and the habitat is good.”

Stacey and Laney Thompson are reflections of one another, identical sisters, companions and everlasting friends. In their small rural town of Eidsvold in Queenland, the Indigenous and white communities are segregated, white farmers claiming stolen land as their own and ravishing the natural resources. Since her grandmother passed away and her mother working long hours as an assistant nurse, Stacey and Laney would care for one another, until Laney begins her nightly rendezvous with Troy, a local boy who Stacey resents for monopolising Laney's time. This has taught me so much I didn’t know about Aboriginal/Indigenous Australian cultures and folklore. Such an engaging and fascinating read. Would recommend any Aussie reader who likes YA and/or folklore to give this one a go. A lot of potoo birds look completely normal, but those aren’t the photos that go viral. It’s normally something a little more like this: a b Costa, Thiago V. V.; Silveira, Luís Fábio; Posso, Sérgio R.; Donatelli, Reginaldo J. (2021-03-01). This is a great read for those who love both satire and the gothic. The most important thing is that there are trees nearby. Great potoos can’t survive in open plains without branches to shelter and camouflage them. 30. Where do great potoos nest? They stood outside the men’s department store. Nine of them all dressed professionally, but throwing off different aura's. I met their eyes one by one, showing a confidence I would never feel inside. I felt my eyes linger on the last two, both looked slightly older than the others, the first met my eyes with cool indifference and pure calculation, examining me in the same way I did him. The second looked at me in an entirely different way, he looked at me as if he could see the bruises on my skin and the limp I was trying so hard to hide."
