About this deal

This USB-C port sends the raw video to your computer via USB 3.x. This high-speed connection allows for the Instant Gameviewlow latency preview of the Elgato Game Capture 4K60 S+. The preview will only be delayed by 50-100 milliseconds. At the time of writing this guide in March, 2020, VEGAS Pro 17 has the most complete end to end HDR support with easy setup. This mode copies the EDID of the display connected to the capture card output onto the capture card. Software (x264) will use your systems' processor and generally will have a larger impact on computer performance but may result in higher quality. This is perhaps compounded by the fact that you can't turn it off without fully unplugging it. Elgato noted to me that the 4K60S+ falls into standby mode when it hasn't been used for 15 minutes, but I found even in this mode, it would remain kind of warm, despite using only a reported 2w of power while standing by. It's not a deal-breaker by any means, but it's worth being aware of.

EDID (Extended Display Identification Data) is a small configuration file that is stored on devices that take in video signals such as TVs, monitors, and capture cards. When you are recording and reach the end of the card capacity, Elgato Game Capture 4K60 S+ will leave 90MB or so free so it can properly finish off the file. Afterwards the recording simply stops, but it will not be corrupted. Encode video on the capture device and record directly to your PC's hard drive without overloading its CPU. A new larger window with a preview will appear (seen below). This is asking you to choose the capture device from a list and to configure it. On the Device selection, choose “ Game Capture HD60 S+”. We can do this by going into File> Settings. Then go into the Video tab. If the Auto-Configuration Wizard hasn’t yet changed this, you will typically want to set your Base (Canvas) Resolution to 1920x1080. This is the resolution of your Canvas or the work area with you layers and overlays.

Elgato Game Capture devices capture sound in stereo (2.0) format. Make sure the PlayStation 5 is set to output Linear PCM. Similar to the PlayStation 4, the Nintendo Switch will not output game sound over HDMI if headphones are plugged into the headphone port. For a head start in setting up OBS Studio, you may want to try the Auto-Configuration Wizard. This Wizard can be found under the Tools menu.

This wizard will setup OBS Studio based on various details about your computer, such as monitor resolution, performance of your system, and internet speed. It’s a good option for getting started. In the upper right corner, there is a Delay (ms)field. Enter 200. The properties can now be closed. When using Cam Link 4Kor Game Capture HD60 S+in OBS Studio on macOS, the audio capture needs to be set manually. Audio is not captured from capture devices automatically like in OBS Studio for Windows.

Elgato Game Capture 4K60 S+ records to different file types depending on the format of the SD card that is being used. Elgato Game Capture 4K60 S+ supports exFAT and FAT32. Most current SD Cards come pre-formatted in exFAT, and exFAT is our recommended format. A tutorial video made by the VEGAS Pro team shows what settings need to be enabled to properly work with, edit, preview and delivery HDR video: HDMI cables come in various lengths. The generally accepted max length of a HDMI cable capable of 1080p60 is 25 feet before signal degradation can occur.
