About this deal

Let the clothes soak in a fixative for 1 hour. Dye fixatives allow your clothes to absorb the dye more readily and prevent the dye from washing out later. The best type of fixative will depend on the type of dye you are using: [15] X Research source Add a fixative to the dye bath. If you are dyeing cotton or linen, add 1 cup (273 g) of salt to the bath. If you are dyeing silk or nylon, add 1 cup (200 mL) of white vinegar to the bath. [4] X Research source You probably learned something about color mixing in school – red and blue make purple, yellow and blue make green, and the difference between primary and secondary colors. Dyes, like paints, are composed of pigments, and overdyeing is essentially just mixing pigments, the same way you’d mix paint.

Polyester is a synthetic fiber that is known for being very durable and practical in sportswear, but it also means it doesn’t have a lot of the absorbent abilities that natural fibers do. Perfect for large and small items alike, Dylon Hand Fabric Dye will give your materials rich, colour and a new lease of life. Make sure to pre-wash your fabric to remove any chemical residue, dirt, or wax on the fabric, which can affect the remover’s performance. Create blue-purple dye with dogwood bark, red cabbage, lavender elderberries, purple mulberries, cornflower petals, blueberries, purple grapes, or purple iris. Polyester is one of the most widely used fabrics because it is inexpensive, strong, and resilient. However, if you want to dye polyester fabric to freshen up a look, it may not go well if you don’t know what you’re doing.Whether you’re covering stains, refreshing a faded garment or transforming an abandoned bridesmaid’s dress, dyeing can give old clothes a new life Beige – almost any “antiqued” version of a color can be created from a beige base. Neons are unlikely, but you can use a dusty pink using a bit of red dye, a mossy green using some spring green dye, etc. Beige is similar to mixing a very light brown, it will tone down any dye color slightly and make it appear slightly muddy and less intense.

If you have followed the steps above, only to find out that the color remover isn’t very effective at stripping the colors from your fabric, don’t worry, there is still a way to help you dye your polyester fabric, with a little help from your elementary school friend – color theory! You will need enough dye to cover the entire piece of fabric. Usually, one bottle of Rit can cover about 2 pounds of fabric. You can use a kitchen scale to weigh the fabric to see how much dye it will need. It will determine how much dye to use to cover the whole garment.Grey – similar to beige, grey will neutrally offset any overdye color. Depending on the shade of grey you start with and the end result you’re after, this can look great with nearly any dye color.
