About this deal

Factors that affect battery life include laptop configuration, power settings, and the way it is used. Battery capacity fades with its cycle count and age. Processor:AMD Ryzen™ 7 5800H Mobile Processor (8-core/16-thread, 20MB cache, up to 4.4 GHz max boost); Operating System:Windows 10 Home - ASUS recommends Windows 11 Pro for business|Free Upgrade to Windows 11¹ (when available, see below); It is possible to move the SSD to the other M.2 slot and boot from there, which helps the SSD run cooler. I’m not seeing a significant increase in our readings, though, but I can confirm that the two slots run on independent PCIe x4 connections, and not a shared one as I was initially assuming.

Of course, AMD’s Ryzen 4000 H hardware is a major step-up from the Ryzen 3000 H in the previous generation, with an impact on both performance and efficiency, as you’ll see down below. However, the FA506 generation also improves on exterior design and ergonomics, as well as adds features and configuration options not available before on TUFs, while remaining competitively priced. It’s a good selection, and should allow you to hook up your favorite peripherals without the need of an adapter. The LAN port is especially welcome on a gaming laptop, offering as it does faster and more reliable network speeds. You can find our tets of the 144 Hz panel in the screen section, but these are recorded with an older sensor and reality the max brightness is about +3o nits and contrast should be a little better as well. Color coverage is right, though. Daily Use – streaming Netflix in EDGE for 30 minutes, Silent Profile, fans at 30-35 dB (26 dB in Armoury Crate) Finally, the camera is placed on top of the screen, flanked by microphones. It’s OK for occasional calls, but laggy and grainy, so don’t expect much. Battery life Once more, the Ryzen 7 4800H processor smokes the existing Intel mainstream competition in Blender and the CPU intensive parts of Specviepwerf, even outmatching the more expensive Core i9s. However, updates are coming for the Intel i7s as well with their 10th gen platform. I'm looking to buy a new gaming laptop, but I recently fixed my old MSI GE62 Apache so I "can" hold it out just a little longer.

I have a above average budget, but I want a sustainable and good product. I'm also really leaning towards a Ryzen 4800 or similar processor, because I'm not keen on Intel being in a monopoly for so long.

Maximize your airflow with two 83-Blade fans. Carefully shaped intake shrouds use curved edges and raised guides to help the fans draw in more air. Once the air’s inside, it’s blasted toward the heatsinks by 83 0.25mm blades that are 55% thinner than conventional designs, yet strong enough to spin at high RPMs. These powerful fans amplify airflow up to 10% to keep your system cool. Gaming – Silent– playing Far Cry 5 for 30 minutes, Silent Profile, fans at 37-38 dB (33 dB in Armoury Crate) Efficient heat redistribution enables faster dissipation, minimizing thermal throttling. The TUF Gaming A15’s tailored system of four heatpipes and three heatsinks absorbs warmth from the CPU and GPU transfers it away. An extended heat spreader on the CPU further helps keep the processor at optimum temperatures for reliable performance, even under serious stress.

For connectivity, there’s Gigabit Lan and Wireless AC through Realtek chips on this unit, but I can’t tell for sure whether the final versions will ship with the same wi-fi chip. We’ve mostly used our sample on wireless, and it performed well both near the router and at 30+ feet away with obstacles in between, without drops or other issues. For what is worth, though, upper-tier WiFi 6 notebooks were able to reach higher speeds with our setup. NVIDIA DLSS gives games a speed boost with uncompromised image quality. Crank up the settings and resolution for an even better visual experience. Display:15.6-inch, FHD (1920 x 1080) 16:9, Value IPS-level, Anti-glare display, sRGB:62.5%, Adobe:47.34%, Refresh Rate:144Hz, Adaptive-Sync, Optimus; However, slightly raising the laptop from the desk to improve air-intake underneath has a slight impact on the CPU/GPU temperatures, so this laptop could be a prime candidate for a cooling pad. The TUF FA506 is the first TUF Gaming series to get a 144 Hz FHD IPS display, similar to what Asus has been using on their ROG lineups in the past.

There’s still a hefty chin under the screen, with a cut-out between the hinges, meant to help with cooling and leave the status LEDs visible with the lid closed. And yes, the status LEDs are still placed beneath the screen, but they’re now very bight and can be ignored when watching a movie in a dark room. The peskier always-lit power button, on the other hand, not so much. Hey, yes it is quite an old timer with it's own set of thermal issues. I also don't like the plastic cover, since it's a bit fragile when I need to take it apart. Update: I think I figured out what’s going one here. As shown in those pictures above, there’s a heatpipe that goes right next to the main SSD, and that is what’s causing the drive to get hot. I experienced the exact same behavior on the A15 FA506IU we’re currently reviewing, but not on the A17 FA706II, which is the lower-tier GTX 1650TI configuration that doesn’t require that heatpipe. You can also notice that Asus wrapped the SSD in a thermal shield, but that’s not enough to keep it cool, and the high temperatures could lead to potential long-term reliability issues. depends on what you're used to. If you're coming from a very fast monitor, you'll notice some lag and minor hosting with this panel, but if you're coming from an older 60 Hz screen, you won't. Either way, I'd say most would get used to this aspect after a few days

There’s a 90Wh battery inside this TUF Gaming FA506 version. Asus offers the series with either a 48 Wh (and HDD cage) or a 90 Wh battery, and I’d recommend opting for the latter. i seen the review on the a15 priced 1200 usd and compared it to the https://www.ultrabookreview.com/35782-asus-proart-studiobook-17/ The standard Asus test environment for battery life is as follows: Windows operating system, display module with 150 nits of brightness, lighting off, and other application settings. The Panda LM156LF-2F01 version we got on our sample is still only a middling panel in terms of brightness and colors, but it’s another incremental upgrade from the 120 Hz panel on the TUF Gaming FX505VD.
