About this deal

Still, there is some lovely writing and even though I didn’t love it-there WAS a lot to like in the author’s DEBUT novel! However, even I, one of the five people who likes a good miscommunication trope, had my patience tested. At times, the stagnancy, misjudgements, and omissions felt overdone for plot convenience, and there’s only so much suspension of disbelief you can ask of me. Spellbinding, beautiful, lyrical and tender...a dazzling debut. I loved every word and was left longing for more' ROSIE WALSH, author of THE MAN WHO DIDN'T CALL

Bauer Consumer Media Ltd, Company number 01176085; Bauer Radio Limited, Company number: 1394141; Registered office: Media House, Peterborough Business Park, Lynch Wood, Peterborough PE2 6EA and H Bauer Publishing, Company number: LP003328; Registered office: The Lantern, 75 Hampstead Road, London NW1 2PLMy goodness, this was beautiful. The writing was 3rd person done perfectly, I was fully transport and completely invested in the protagonists and their love story 🖤

Despite their different life goals and Rosie’s insistence that they just stay friends, their feelings intensify until a single night breaks them both and changes the entire course of both their lives. Over the many years that follow, circumstances, guilt and each one’s almost paralyzing inability to make choices for their own happiness, push them together and pull them apart repeatedly. Locations, jobs and partners change, but one thing is constant: their friendship. They fight, they laugh, they ignore each other, they seek each other out, but no matter what - they stay. Is that enough or are they both chasing a youthful fantasy? Talking at Night is one of those rare books you don’t want to end. Beautifully written, incredibly nostalgic, and utterly heartfelt.’ Katie Bishop, author of The Girls of Summer I absolutely adored Talking at Night--it should be on everyone’s must-read list. Beautiful, poignant, and heart-wrenching.' Carley FortuneIn this debut novel, we follow Rosie and Will as they deal with whatever life throws at them in the best way they can. The only constant in their life, it seems, it's the fact they never fall out of love with each other. The characters are well-developed and relatable, making it easy for readers to become invested in their story. The setting, nineties music, sideways glances, sunsets, and bonfires all contribute to the romantic and nostalgic feel of the novel. it hurts to love you but i still love you it's just the way i feel," lana wrote this lyric for will.

If you love really gentle, beautiful and very cleverly written love stories, then this is the book for you' FEARNE COTTON It's so beautifully written. This story was truly heart wrenching and I felt every single emotion through Rosie and Will. will has no reason to love her, she's so dull that it's painful. she didn't do anything for herself and yes i get that whatever but the way she just strings will along for so long when all he wanted was for her to love him. she's so rude fr, the most selfish. but he's also stupid for wanting love from her... the boring ass conversations... where's the connection? nowhere. Spellbinding, beautiful, lyrical and tender, Talking at Night is a dazzling debut. I loved every word and was left longing for more." - Rosie WalshA beautifully observed, tender love story with characters you really care about…a bit like Normal People . I devoured it.” ― Jojo Moyes, New York Times bestselling author of Someone Else's Shoes Talking at Night is a love story, certainly, but it's much more than that. I was rapt. I highly recommend this wonderful novel." - Ann Napolitano This goes to show that no failed book is ever a waste of time – I do believe that without those previous projects, I’d never have met my agent in the first place – and they all led me to landing the right agent for me! Ariella is truly the perfect gatekeeper for my writing, the right mix of strategic edge, editorial eye and gut instinct. Plus she truly loved Will and Rosie, and the excitement in her voice over the phone that day told me all I needed to know! I couldn’t have written Talking at Night without all the projects that came before it. Every word and every rejection letter was worth it.
