About this deal

Would be interested to see if it performs as well on an APS-C sensor as I would guess that m43 uses the 'best' central part of the image circle?

Samyang AF 12mm F2 E - Focus Review (P)review Samyang AF 12mm F2 E - Focus Review

CA aside, I really like this lens - it's well-priced, and performs great. Other reviewers have compared it favourably to Zeiss offerings and other much more expensive ultra wides. For the price, there's nothing that comes close to this performance on APS-C E-mount. Lab-test results for ultra-wide-angle lenses never tell the whole story, as the physical size of the test charts requires that images are shot from very close range. In our real-world tests, we found sharpness to be excellent in the central region of the frame even when shooting wide-open at f/2, and edge/corner-sharpness to be generally very good, rising to highly impressive levels at apertures between f/2.8 and f/8. Kudos to Samyang for developing growing maturity in their autofocus design and execution! Samyang AF12 Image Quality Naturally manual focus is available when you need it, and as usual for a modern AF lens, it’s electronically controlled. The focus ring’s operation is non-linear, which means that twisting it rapidly gives large adjustments, while slow rotation enables precise fine-tuning. By default, turning the ring brings up a distance scale in the camera’s viewfinder, but you can also set it to activate other focus aids from the menu, such as a peaking display. Imperfect it may be, then, but this is still a really interesting ultra-wide option for Fujifilm users, and especially those who’d like to travel light or are on a budget.

The Google Pixel 6 may not be the latest Google smartphone any more, but it might still be the best value The Samyang AF 12mm F2 E is a small and light ultra-wide lens for APS-C format that is well made and performs well. It's fast and silent AF and short M.O.D. Highly Recommended! Ephotozine

Gear Review: Rokinon (Samyang) 12mm f/2.0 NCS CS Wide Angle Gear Review: Rokinon (Samyang) 12mm f/2.0 NCS CS Wide Angle

I very much appreciate the variety of choices on E mount... /shrug Reminds me of M4/3 a little bit in that way. Now you can capture every moment, day and night. This compact and lightweight lens havea short minimum focusing distance, weather sealing and a quiet, smooth AF system forstills andvideo. Samyang announces new 12mm F2 autofocus lens for Sony APS-C

Drew — thanks for this review. Couple of questions — when using this lens, how often do you miss the 18mm provided by the Sony zoom lens? Also, do you ever use circular polarizers with your wide angle lenses (and why/why not)? Reply Optical construction is 12 elements in 10 groups, including 1 Hybrid Aspherical, 1 aspherical and 3 ED (Extra Low Dispersion). The diaphragm comprises 7 blades. Flare resistance is enhanced by the use of Samyang's well-proven UMC multi-layer coating techniques. The lens is small and light, weighing in at just 213g without caps or hood. It seems well made using high-quality plastics and has a solidly made metal lens mount of high precision. It fits onto the camera body smoothly. The lens is quite fat though compared to the A5100 body and this results in two handling quirks. The first is that the lens/camera does not sit flat on a flat surface and is not stable. It wobbles about, making use of say a tabletop as a lens support impractical. The second is that the lens can foul the tripod and really a spacer might be needed in some cases, or the camera may need to be mounted quite far forwards on the tripod platform. This shouldn't be an issue with larger APS-C cameras, such as the Sony A6000 series. Sell the kit you’re not using to MPB. Trade in for the kit you need to create. Buy used, spend less and get more. Buy. Sell. Trade. Create. The Samyang AF 12mm F2 E is Samyang’s first autofocus lens for APS-C. You can see this lens as the autofocus version of the Samyang 12mm F2.0 NCS CS. Optically, that lens didn’t leave much to be desired, but the addition of autofocus makes this lens even more versatile. Thanks to its 7-blade aperture, the Samyang AF 12mm F2 X gives attractive 14-ray sunstars. Fujifilm X-T5, Samyang AF 12mm F2 X, 1/50sec at f/11, ISO 125. Image credit: Andy Westlake Note that the Rokinon 12mm f/2.0 can also be found listed as the Samyang 12mm f/2.0. There is no difference with these two lenses as they are exactly the same and differ in name only. ** Would love to see a m43 prime lens between 7 and 9mm and f.28 or faster for a reasonable price. MF is fine with me especially if it brings cots down(I already own the excellent 7.5mm fisheye) - but the only real advantage of this Samyang 12mm is the f2.0 aperture. I am sure the Panasonic 12-32 is near enough as good at 12mm and offers autofocus too plus it costs slightly less. The short minimum focusing distance, only 0.19m (0.62ft), enables you to capture various close-ups such as funny portraits, food on the table, and indoors images. Take a couple of steps closer to your subject and get creative images!

For some this is a "bad idea" because it affects their lens sales but in real they are losing so many customers to Sony. Because it’s now offered as an autofocus lens, the Samyang AF 12mm f/2 is no longer limited to shooting static subjects like landscapes or the night sky. You can use it to shoot wide-angle images of people or other moving objects without having to worry about losing sharpness. The perfect spacing and distance are always necessary when shooting all kinds of subjects, including people, to give them a proper relationship with the beautiful space around them. So, what’s the exact distance that helps you best appreciate a work of art, or a photo? Color is subjective but the Fujis are better performers like 10bit vid and 20fps stills in E-shutter, they are also more expensive and inclusive. X-trans isn't that utterly different because its still a Bayer sensor and they are designed by Fuji, manufactured by Sony, Sony doesn't care about brand fanaticism, only individuals do, business is business. For me, the most important thing to see in a camera or lens review is the ‘real life’ image quality. In this section I’ll talk about and show pictures to demonstrate the Rokinon 12mm f/2.0’s abilities in low light, flare, bokeh, vignetting, distortion, it’s ability to ‘get close’, and it’s performance while hiking outside. Low LightMPB puts photo and video kit into more hands, more sustainably. Every month, visual storytellers sell more than 20,000 cameras and lenses to MPB. Choose used and get affordable access to kit that doesn’t cost the earth. If you can live with its flaws, the Samyang AF 12mm F2 X represents impressive value for money. Image credit: Andy Westlake Mind that i dont like colour rendering of other Samyang lenses. Because i often use Zeiss lenses with the T coating. The lens is weather-sealed, protecting against moisture and raindrops, and a rear protective glass adds to the level of sealing. The Linear STM motor results in fast and virtually silent AF. I’m very impressed that the majority of the frame has excellent sharpness even wide open at f/2. There is some loss in edge sharpness when shooting wide open but it’s easily corrected by stopping down to f/4.
