About this deal

The seventh in the Callanach and Turner series can easily be read as a stand-alone. The run has sold more than half-a-million copies since its launch in 2017 and is set in Edinburgh where Fields, twice long-listed for the McIlvanney Scottish Crime Book of the Year, feels “most at one with the world.” Omg! Wow! What a great book! Suspense, intrigue, action and a great who-done-it with a crazy twist!! I did not see that coming! What a story!’ Reader review ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Edinburgh is gripped by the greatest terror it has ever known: a lone bomber is targeting victims across the city, and no one is safe.

In their jobs, DCI Ava Turner and DI Luc Callanach deal with death every day. But when it becomes clear that every bomb is a trap designed to kill them too, the possibility of facing it themselves starts to feel all too real. A brilliant book - full of twists and turns. Grim at times but the Edinburgh bomber - murderer but also victim - was eventually caught.

Fantastic book. Enjoyed the series. Great characterisation as usual of Ava and Luc. Well written and good suspense. I couldn't put it down! Edinburgh is targeted by a bomber and it's up to Ava and Luc to find the answers...What is the ultimate price... This book is not for the faint hearted. Right from the start we are thrown into chaos and I LOVE it!! Fast paced, thrilling and totally brutal this book hurts. It’s a totally compelling read that if I didn’t have a life I would’ve devoured in one sitting. One for Sorry by Helen Fields is the 7th book in the DI Luc Callanach and DCI Ava Turner series. I wasn’t aware of this but didn’t spoil the enjoyment as you can read this as a standalone. A lone bomber is wreaking havoc in Edinburgh, but with no idea of the motive or any clues to link the events Ava ans Luc are struggling to solve the case.

I feel this could do with a bunch of trigger warnings, but to do so would involve significant plot spoilers, so let’s just say that it should appeal to those who like their crime fiction tense, gory and bleak, and be avoided if you’re feeling sensitive or sad. I guessed roughly what was going on quite early but was tripped up a couple of times on the who and how. It ends on a pretty significant cliffhanger - Ms Fields is as cruel to her characters as GRR Martin - I’m undecided whether I want to continue the series - they’re great but I’m losing my taste for this much darkness - but probably will need to know what happens next! I can't recommend this book highly enough, one of the very best books from one of the best authors in the genre. One For Sorrow is one of the best books I’ve read this year and I’m nearing the 150 mark for books read. I was pacing the room as I devoured this, I couldn’t sit down I was so tense. This is the 7th book in the DCI Turner/DI Callanach series, they can be read as a stand-alone, situations are explained as they go along! Helen Field's DI Luc Callenach and DCI Ava Turner series keeps up dramatic suspense in the latest installment. While it is interesting to begin the series with the first book, each can be read as a stand-alone.I loved the characters and felt connected to them, especially Quinn, gosh I went through a rollercoaster of emotions reading the parts about her. Without giving too much away, I spotted the warning signs early on with that situation, It was difficult to read in parts I think because it felt so real and I just wanted to jump in and help Quinn. I honestly wanted to jump in the book and give Liam a good talking too (or punch in the face!) The fact I was so immersed in the story and felt the way I did just goes to show how powerful the authors writing was, I forgot I was reading at points and felt like I was there watching. Unknown to DI Luc Callanach and the newly promoted DCI Ava Turner, a serial killer has Edinburgh firmly in his grip. If you have read Helen Fields' last novel, The Shadow Man, then you may well recognise one of the guest characters in the book. It was great to see Connie Woolwine pop up to provide some well needed insight into the mind of the killer, something that worked to reinforce my assertions about the who, if not wholly the what. She is a quirky character, but I do love her direct style and forthright attitude. She gives Callanach some much needed guidance, and not just into the case, perhaps allowing him the room to lay some old demons to rest. Even Lively seems to appreciate her style, and he is no easy character to win over. Fields continues ratcheting up the tension and suspense by drawing readers’ focus to things left unsaid throughout the novel. Most notably, the way she has interspliced Ava and Luc’s frantic present-day hunt for the bomber with the chronological revelation of historical events that led to the bombing spree. Clever writing indeed.

When it becomes clear that with every tip-off they are walking into a trap designed to kill them too, Ava and Luc know that finding the truth could mean paying the ultimate price. The latest instalment in the Helen Fields ‘Perfect’ series. Fans of Ava and Callanch will not be disappointed. The day this series ends, I will be disappearing for at least a month trying to make do with the fact that there will be no more new D.I. Callanach in the world. … One for Sorrow taps into the greatest fear you can have as a woman and it exploits and presents it in such a way that can bring you to sob.’ – thebusyshelf.com About the Author, Helen Fields Five for silver, six for gold. When it becomes clear that with every tip-off they are walking into a trap designed to kill them too, Ava and Luc know that finding the truth could mean paying the ultimate price. Seven for a secret never to be told... But with the threat - and body count - rising daily, and no clue as to who's behind it, neither Ava nor Luc know whether they will live long enough to tell the tale... I've been an avid reader of this series from the start, very few authors consistently write such tense, high stakes, high quality dark crime thrillers.

No one has any idea that she might still be out there. A burning corpse of a person usually seems pretty open and shut. Elaine might still be out there, and if anyone might be able to find her, it is Luc Callanach. The Detective Inspector has just been given a nice new office but has barely time to enter it when the case of a missing person is upgraded to murder. With no clear method for how the killer chooses their victims, Callanach and Turner are under more pressure than ever to identify the killer before it's too late. But as a separate murder case rears its head and places Callanach as the prime suspect, it seems like this killer might just be uncatchable....
