When John and I first tasted the Lagavulin 16 yo whisky, we looked at each other and frowned. It did not live up to our expectations. We felt that it was a bit one dimensional and boring. We were looking forward to sampling this new expression of Lagavulin as the Islay distillery has long been one of our favourites. It delivers everything that we want from a smoky whisky, and Lagavulin in particular - classy and expressive smoke, vibrant green fruits and delicious sweetness. Whiskybase B.V. I have a pretty massive collection of bottles and most of them are sealed for the future or for investment purposes. This one I opened ages ago when I 1st really got into whiskey but I really barely get a chance to drink... It has really been fine sitting in the cupboard it seems like the correct is totally intact and just smelling this from the bottle and put it in the glass just reminds me of why I got interested in whiskey in the 1st place. This is stunning. Sometimes you see all these expensive bottles and then you realize some people don't even care about this world and wouldn't even understand the expense and the high end expensiveness that whiskey can get into but this is just an exceptional product. It's beautiful and tastes beautiful and smells amazing

Lagavulin 10 Years Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky 70cl

On the nose, the malt opens with lots of heat. The aroma is full of earthy peat with cinnamon, nutmeg and pepper spice. There is a definite quality to the flavour and spices are distinct and warming. They tie in perfectly with the earthy richness of the peat. Today I look at another battle of big Islay malts; Ardbeg 10 vs Lagavulin 16 yo whisky. Both these drams achieved cult status with peat heads. When you mention Islay whisky, one of the first drams that come to mind is the Lagavulin 16 yo whisky.Nothing in the Terms shall exclude or limit our liability for fraudulent misrepresentation or for death or personal injury resulting from gross negligence or willful misconduct by us. Lagavulin is located on the south eastern coast of Islay and sits on Lagavulin Bay, a small bay dominated by the ruins of the 13th century Dunyvaig Castle. The name is taken from the anglicised name of the village in which the distillery is located - Lag a'Mhuilin, which translates as 'mill by the bay' from the local Gaelic dialect. Ardbeg Distillery is situated on the south coast of the isle of Islay. Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy owns t he distillery and produces a heavily peated Islay whisky. Ardbeg is peated to 55 ppm. The Ardbeg 10 yo whisky is aged for at least 10 years in ex-bourbon barrels.

At the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, Lagavulin’s 16-year Scotch flourished, winning four consecutive double gold medals between 2005 and 2008. But it was the 2017 competition when the Scotch took home the title of Best Distiller’s Single Malt and won a double gold medal, receiving unanimous gold medal scores from panelists. Speaking of superlatives… Lagavulin is one of the great distilleries—you can’t convince me otherwise. While it doesn’t reach the highs of 1960s Bowmore and Laphroaig, there came a point when it started to surpass both of those distilleries. Of course, there’s great Bowmore and Laphroaig from the 1990s and 2000s arounds, but Lagavulin outperforms either in those eras. I know that’s just my opinion, but it almost feels like fact. Peat and smoke with hints of vanilla, sea salt and citrus sweetness. It is not overwhelming but inviting and intriguing. Burun : İlk koklamayla beraber yoğun bir iyot, kömür ve karabiber kokusu… Oldukça güçlü ve keskin. New spirit’e benzettiğimi söyleyebilirim. Alkol derecesi %43’ten yüksek izlenimi yarattı. Bol baharatlı ve ilaçsı kokular. Kadehin biraz havalanmasıyla çok hafif citrus notaları. Dr Craig Wilson, master of malts at Lagavulin owner Diageo, said: ‘The different wood types used have helped create a whisky with a fiery yet light, and smoky yet smooth character –one that is filled with surprising contrasts. Yapabileceğim bir diğer negatif yorum ise ekspresyonun 10 yıldan daha genç bir izlenim vermesi. Buna rağmen turba (peat) severleri tatmin edebilecek karakteri ve kolay içimli olması artı yönleri. If you're looking for a food pairing for this beauty, try intensely flavoured salty blue cheeses, which complement the intense, peat rich, sweet and salty character of this Lagavulin wonderfully. The distillery was founded in 1816 by John Johnston and is currently owned by Diageo. It has an annual production of approximately three million litres with the whisky produced there split between the Lagavulin single malt portfolio and for use within Diageo's extensive blended range, being one of the prominent malts in White Horse. I just got my brother his first bottle of Ardbeg 10 and he is loving it. His first Islay was Bowmore 12 and I would love to see it ranked against Ardbeg 10. Hopefully I converted him to a peat head. In the realm of Scotch whisky, Lagavulin is as iconic as the island it’s distilled on. In fact, it’s one of the oldest distilleries found in the heart of Islay — even predating some of its ultra-famous neighbors. Its complex origins involving illegal production and smuggling make for an interesting story, but what sets this Scotch apart from giants like The Macallan and The Balvenie is its distinct flavor.Nice nose, less intense in the mouth than expected, with a medium length finish if necessary. Little complex, but straight forward and honest, and still more interesting than the 8y. Well suited if you are looking for a smoky malt that you want to enjoy on the side without much thought. If any provision of these Terms is held invalid, the remainder of the Terms shall continue in full force and effect. Ardbeg is slightly less medicinal than Laphroaig, however, it is more balanced and complex. Lagavulin has a more oily mouthfeel than the Ardbeg; however, the oiliness also seems to capture some raw alcohol notes. The isle of Islay is well known for its smoky, heavily peated malts. Lagavulin is only one of eight working distilleries on the island (soon to be nine once Port Ellen opens). Having recently tried the 8 year old and two different 16 year olds at the distillery at Lagavulin along with a Director's cask I believe... I was not treated to the 10 year old.
