Susan: Ooo, that sounds great. And how about the perfect serve, is there one Gin and Tonic, is there a special lemon peel or orange peel or lime, what do you suggest brings out the best?

Jaisalmer - Radico Khaitan Jaisalmer - Radico Khaitan

Sampling the gin neat, you get a smoothness of liquorice with a very evident orange zest. Gentle heat from the cubeb pepper leaves a long lingering presence. Now, you mentioned that you released the gin in India at the end of last year. Is that now available all across India? The most important thing would be how a bartender or how anybody else would try to experiment with an Indian gin. If we put ourselves in their shoes, how they would be experiencing it, we thought that, if they have an idea and they associate Jaisalmer with India and they think about India, they think that, India means maybe spicy. Now, the gin that you mentioned, you actually named after the Northern city of Jaisalmer. Why was that? You can also make Negroni’s Gimlets or classic Martinis with this Indian gin brand. We produce close to 13 million liters of alcohol every month. We have a small population in India of 1.4 billion people, so we must support them! Then he traveled to the central India. Where he found sweetest of orange peels which are grown there. We selected those orange peels which tend to give the citrusy, floral tones to our gin. Then he shortlisted Cubeb berries from our own south India, aromatic Cubeb berries, which give off a feeling off roasted-ness or smokiness. It’s amazing. The result is an attractive product that draws on temple architecture, numismatics and handicrafts for its design and plays with Indian flavours in a less than obvious manner. The tea, so clearly imparting a note on the nose, it’s hard to discern to taste, but the tannic, dry finish of the gin (in part due to angelica) is no doubt accentuated by it. In a G&T, you can go a variety of directions with this - a chunky lemongrass works well, so too does a dual garnish of orange and cardamom. We like a sprig of mint in ours but rest assured in the knowledge that it’s multifaceted enough to be leaned in which ever way you’d like.

I want to relive that atmosphere in this unprecedented time. Whether it’s Chile, Peru, New York, Miami, I don’t care. It’s just to be in that place where a bunch of people do not have to wear any masks. We don’t need to socially distance ourselves from anybody. We can just have a normal chat ,conversation, soak in that atmosphere.
