About this deal

I was really looking forward to this book coming out, but it ended up being a big letdown. I first read the blurb and was hoping for something like Fantasticland. Instead, I got something more like Clown in a Cornfield, that took itself too seriously and got rid of the fun . Joanna thinks she may be remembering what happened to Lily, and her childhood self may have been involved. A pleasingly honest downbeat denouement is mitigated by a romantic upturn in the inspector's private life." - The Times In this fun, interactive game of hide-and-seek, young children learn all about positional prepositions. If all the world is hell and evil is all around them, what else can they do but try to help each other? Joanna becomes all-consumed by finding out what happened to the little girl because of a secret she is hiding. The story progresses seamlessly between her narrative in 2018 and an omnipresent narrator in 1985.Too impatient, unwilling to really flesh Rebus out, Rankin offers another practise run with Hide and Seek, as he tries to figure the character out. Meanwhile, Rebus' boss, Detective Superintendent Watson, has roped him in to help on an anti-drugs campaign, which lets him hob nob with the rich and powerful -- fancy lunches and parties, invitations to the most exclusive clubs. Personalized Christmas Gift - Your Child & the KarmaChameleon | Personalized Seek-and-Find Book | Activity Book | Personalised Book Ages 3-8 Alongside the tension you could cut with a knife and those whiplash inducing plot twists the book is full of characters that are relatable. Some you will see in yourself, others are that annoying neighbour a few doors over that never smiles, remember that family down the road that seem to have it all or even that cluster of snotty Mummies at the school gates. We all know these characters, whether we love or hate them, it becomes ridiculously hard not to become invested in them.

In this story we follow fourteen contestants competing in a Hide-and-Seek contest at an abandoned amusement park. Hide-and-Seek with Bear, Owl, and Fox is polite and fair. Young readers can play along, as Sakshi Mangal’s fantastic illustrations contain clues about where the animals might be hiding. The trio take turns being the Seeker, and when Bear feels he’s looked everywhere for his friends, he gives up and sits on the bench. Fox and Owl race toward him, one on each side, and give him a much-needed bear hug. This is a thoroughly enjoyable book; well done! This one was full of tension, without making me terrified. You know things are going to go wrong and the author keeps you in the dark until the end when the motivations are revealed. There are quite a few characters to keep up with and two characters named Ava! Why?!

Terribly flat dialogue and unrealistic situations. Characters were cardboard. Heroine was unlikable and stupid.

i was actually busy with another book, but we went on a motorbike weekend and the other book was too heavy to carry, so i grabbed this one. :) It's time for bed. But will Fred go to bed? You bet he won't! From hiding up trees, and splashing in muddy puddles, to hiding in the kitchen sink and disappearing behind bookshelves, Fred will do ANYTHING to avoid bedtime. He would even prefer to have a bath. But what's this? All that running around couldn't possibly have made Fred sleepy . . . could it? Seven of the contenders are aspiring and favorite: A social media fitness model, a graffiti artist, a YouTube prank show hostess, an app developer/ house sitter, a jewelry designer/ dog walker, a zealous CrossFit Instructor, an actress with severe food allergies A nice touch is the cynical end, the knowledge that the truly rich and powerful can hush things up and save their skins (the occasional sacrifice notwithstanding) -- and Rebus' awareness of all this.I also felt my age where the target audience for this book is concerned, but I was still able to enjoy it.
