About this deal

Dermot is a 21-year-old Connemara who, despite being in his senior years, still lives a very active lifestyle. Dermot has poor dentition; various diastemas and having had three teeth removed means he struggles to chew hay effectively and requires a partial forage replacer ration. Avoid cereal mixes or cubes – only half a scoop of low energy mix provides enough energy for 20 minutes schooling

eFeed - Spillers - Happy Hoof

Welcome to Happy Hooves Riding Centre. We are situated in the heart of Cumbria just outside of Penrith, 2 minutes from junction 40 on the M6. Located on the banks of the River Eamont, the riding school has a delightful rural outlook over the river. SPILLERS High Fibre Cubes are a special blend of concentrated fibres with prebiotics and probiotics to help support your horse or pony's digestive system. Emma Williams got in touch to arrange a diet clinic after her horse, Jake, was diagnosed with EMS. “I keep him on a cattle farm” explained Emma, “where the grazing is fantastic but not ideal for a 15hh Connemara who’s a good-doer! He gradually piled on the pounds and before I knew it he was very round!” High quality forages such as alfalfa are abundant in natural vitamins and minerals. In low calorie formulations where straw is included to bring the calorie value down, the mineral levels are also reduced. The use of premixes and ingredients such as MSM help to counter this effect. INGREDIENTS : Cereal straw treated (oat & wheat, sodium), Chopped cereal straw (oat & wheat), Sunflower seed meal dehulled, Oatfeed, Lucerne (alfalfa), Wheatfeed, Rapeseed oil, Calcium carbonate, Sodium chloride (salt), Magnesium oxide, GarlicLow in starch and sugar, SPILLERS HAPPY HOOF Molasses Free is formulated to promote a low insulin response.

Horse Feed From Dengie, Premium Fibre Horse Food

Cutting calories is essential for weight loss but this shouldn’t come at the expense of providing a balanced diet. Lysine is an essential amino acid and is one of several nutrients that may be deficient in a calorie restricted diet. With gastric ulcers thought to affect approximately 60% of competition horses (and up to 50% of leisure horses), it’s no surprise that we receive lots of questions about gastric ulcers via our Care-Line. High fibre, molasses free feed with no added sugar suitable for horse and ponies prone to laminitis. Feed as much forage as they will eat or a minimum of 7.5kg of hay or 9-11kg of haylage per day based on no grazing

A unique blend of oat straw, alfalfa, grass, mint, garlic and soya oil with added vitamins and minerals.

High Fibre Horse Feed Products | SPILLERS Feeds

Just been reading a post on Facebook about sugars in chaff written by Andrew Mellon Vets Ltd (no idea who they are, it popped up on my news feed) SPILLERS HAPPY HOOF and HAPPY HOOF Molasses Free can be fed alongside a cube, mix or mash containing added vitamins and minerals to contribute to a fully balanced diet. For example a 500kg horse could have 2kg of SPILLERS High Fibre Cubes and 1kg of SPILLERS Happy Hoof per day or another combination as long as it totaled 3kg.Horse riding is a hobby for people of all ages and abilities so there’s no need to use the excuse “I’m too old!” or “I’m not good enough”. Both feeds are suitable to be used as full or partial hay/forage replacers. For those that struggle to manage longer fibres such as hay, haylage or grass a full or partial forage replacer can help to keep fibre intake up to maintain condition and digestive health. In addition for those very laminitis prone it can take the guess work out of finding a safe low NSC forage source as it is consistently less than 10% sugar and starch. There are a variety of suitable horses and ponies available, and all our staff are trained, qualified and professional and we are fully insured for all of the services that we have on offer. Private and group lessons available please do enquire for prices. For some young people with learning difficulties finding direction in life can be a challenge but if they can gain a nationally recognised qualification it is a foot on the ladder to a brighter future, opening doors where there were previously limited options available.”

Divide hay replacersinto a minimum of 4 meals for those without access to grazing. Try to ensure the first and last meals of the day are given as early/ late as possible to avoid long periods without forage overnight. As a guide, a Stubbs scoopof short chopped fibre weighs approximately 300-500g whereas the same scoop of a pelleted option (such as grass nuts or alfalfa pellets) weighs approximately 2kg.Feed 500g of Healthy Hooves Molasses Free per 100kg of your horse's bodyweight. Fibre weighs very little compared to mixes or cubes. It is important to weigh your scoop to ensure that you are feeding the correct amount. A large Stubbs scoop holds approximately 500grams. Top tips for managing horse and ponies prone to Laminitis Ideally hay replacers should be fed ad lib although this may not be practical for good doers. Equally, weighing your horse’s ration, at least to start with, is a good way of ensuring you are feeding enough. As a general guide, 1kg of hay replacer can be used to replace 1kg of hay. Total forage intake should not be restricted to less than 1.5% of current bodyweight per day on a dry matter basis. In practice, this equates to around 8.5-9kg of hay replacer for a 500kg horse with no grazing once you've accounted for the water content (all forage and forage replacers contain some water which doesn't count towards the horse's forage intake). However, these are minimum amounts and some horses and ponies will need more than this - speak to a nutritionist for more advice. SPILLERS hay replacers Some products are only suitable for feeding as partial hay replacers, these include sugar beet and ‘pure’ alfalfa pellets/ chaffs. If your horse is no longer able to manage short chopped fibre, look for feeds that can be soaked to make a mash.
