About this deal

Reviewers from TheSpruce.com personally tested and provided a great list of the best washlines available this year (2021). Here is what they found and will best apply to putting up a washline on a fence. Cheaper, more readily available outdoor washlines can be found through Home Depot, Walmart, or even Dollar Tree. Dig your hole to the correct depth relevant to the size of the post you are using. To make sure you have the right sized hole for your fence post take a look at the table in our digging fence post holes project. Also, if you are creating a run of several fence posts then it is a good idea to mark your posts out using a plumb line to ensure that they all run in a straight line and that the face of each post is level with the post next to it

You can also get smaller “1 person” power fence post augers or ground drills that perform fairly well in soft and loose soil, but do tend to struggle in something more substantial. The mix comes in very handy sized 20kg, waterproof bags and while it may be a little expensive for a long run of fencing it is absolutely ideal for a single fence post or the metal post for a washing line. BTW that postcrete is quite expensive -- for one post -- but it does solve a lot of problems once you've dug the hole. ) Yesterday I came home to find that the neighbour had screwed and glued (with white nomorenails) bright orange spike strips to the top of my fence. I have asked them to remove the spikes and (after a lot of verbal abuse) they reluctantly did, but have left the white glue which looks awful. Not sure what we should do next.

The general rule is when setting a fence post into the ground, the height required above the ground should be divided by 3 and this figure is the hole depth required. The width of the post hole should be 3 times the width of diameter of the post. Ensure your string line is straight and inline with where you want your posts to go and that the front face of each stake it flush with the line. These tools resemble a giant cork screw and to use them you essentially position the tip where you want to form your hole and then twist the handles to “screw” it down into ground. As you screw the auger down, the thread (or flighting) bites into the soil and loosens and removes it. Before you start digging, unhook your string line from one end and move it out of the way so that it doesn’t get damaged. The easiest way to concrete in a pole is to use something like Postcrete, a concrete mixture that can be poured dry into a hole and then have some water added to make it set.

The Best Wall-Mounted Washing Lines - Lean Green Home

Hi, from what I’m reading, I have the same issue as lots of people. We recently replaced an old wind damaged fence. We heard the neighbours talking that it looks bare from their side. It is at least 100 metres from their house. We asked them not to put anything up against it and today she drilled holes for wires to grow plants up. We are not happy for plants to grow through the fence as this is what caused the damage in the first place, that and him jet washing the thing. The thought of a neighbour war does not appeal, they act as if they can do what they like. Reply Using your tape measure, measure out from each face of the fence post marker the correct distance for the size of fence post you’re using. Regardless of whether you’re dealing with fence posts, washing line posts or any other type of post, the principals are the same. If you have loamy, peaty, sandy or silty soil, this soil-type is fairly light and easy to work with and in turn fairly easy to dig through, but if you have a heavy soil such as clay or a chalky soil that’s full of stones, using a manual auger will be hard work. I am wanting to have some lights fitted in my garden, the neighbour has refused to allow me to put them on my side of the fence but I will need to run the cable from my house and along the fence to be able to reach the lights which will be put on the fences i own. Am I within my rights to do this?

The coversation went on longer than this but I don’t want to fall out with my neighbour so advice I would appreciate and also where do I stand ?? Reply For the purposes of this guide we are going to use a post hole digger (or clamshell digger as it’s also known). As they’re alternate name suggests, they are a simple clamshell-like tool that you shove down into the hole, close together and then lift, removing any waste earth. One final point to note when it comes to digging fence post holes is the hole itself. Never leave any post holes that have been already dug unattended. If you need to leave the area you’re working in for any time, cover all of your post holes over with a suitable piece of ply board or similar.
