About this deal

When the project is finished it is the most natural and beautiful option available. However, you must complete the process for each individual board which can take several hours or even days to complete. There are two ways of replacing fascia. One can offer a cheaper fix, the other a long-term solution. Here’s the difference. Capping over fascia Other than expanding and contracting, aluminum is quite resilient against the elements. If the aluminum is nailed correctly to a solid fascia board, it can last virtually forever. If the seams are not exposed to water getting behind them and the roof is in good health, fascia capping can be great.

The mitre cuts are also problematic with picture framing. As the boards expand and contract during the day and seasons, the mitre joints will open and close. What once was a beautiful mitre joint joints becomes an ugly gap between boards. RAISED FASCIA BOARD Fascia capping is ideal for preventing water from penetrating through the wood. It doesn’t have to be painted and it can be put right on top of the fascia boards. However, here are a few ways water can get behind the capping. Like the plastic end caps, though, unless you take the extra time (and cost) to seal all edges, this solution is not water tight and moisture can get to the plank cores. You might be tempted to go for a cheaper “patch-up” repair of fascia instead of a full replacement. Known as a “cap over” in the trade, this involves removing the guttering then attaching a PVC fascia“cappit board” to the existing timber fascia. New guttering is then attached to the cappit fascia board. It is essential that the existing timber is sound – if it’s rotten it will continue to decay underneath eventually causing the cappit fascia board to fall off. Capping over is a cheaper roofline repair option as the methods used are less substantial. It should only be considered if the existing timber fascia is in very good condition and free from rot. Attaching a PVC fascia board to rotten timber may cost you more in the long run! Full fasciareplacement Installing a fascia is a way to connect and cover the board end openings. As the name suggests, the board is a facing board that covers imperfections and makes a single, smooth appearance. Endcaps are available in two sizes: 3¼" x 3¾" (83 mm x 95 mm) and 4½" x 4½" (114 mm x 114 mm). Larger size is available for dual roller shades.

Not being attached like some other finishing options, there is no conflict between material and movement. Fascia capping uses a thin aluminum sheathing that doesn’t always look structurally sound. If the fascia boards are really wide the capping can have a wavy look to it. The aluminum does not appear to be solid or have the integrity of a regular fascia board. If clutch-operated roller shades are installed in an environment where it's possible that young children will be present, they should comply with ANSI/WCMA A100.1, the Standard for Safety of Window Coverings. Our capping boards come in two enduring styles in eight different colours and eight widths ranging from 150mm to 450mm.
