Guests in Westminster Abbey for the Coronation of King Charles III include the crowned heads of Europe and political leaders from across the globe – not to mention the hundreds of community and charity representatives recognised for their work and service with an invitation to witness the historic moment up close. But familiar faces from the entertainment world were also filing into the church – the scene of Charles’s mother Queen Elizabeth II’s own Coronation 70 years ago – on 6 May. During Elizabeth's reign, planning meetings for Charles's coronation, codenamed "Operation Golden Orb", were held at least once a year, attended by representatives of the government, the Church of England, and Charles's staff. King Harold Godwinson was almost certainly crowned at the newly consecrated Westminster Abbey in January 1066, although this is not specifically confirmed by any contemporary source.
