About this deal

Colors are predictably filmic and flat. This means anyone looking for an ‘out of the camera, onto YouTube workflow’, this probably isn’t it, even though you do have a number of recording formats that help out with this. Meanwhile, if you’re looking to flex your post processing muscles and make the footage look exactly like you want it to, you have maximum flexibility. Battery As a workaround, you can shoot in a Super 16mm (equivalent) crop mode on an Arri or RED camera, but that just solves the aesthetic issue. The other consideration is practicality. We tried shooting RAW and the range of detail we could pull out was even better than ProRes, but the file sizes and additions to processing time meant for our needs, it wasn’t worth it despite the tangible benefits. But as every filmmaker knows, sometimes it happens to get a gig with short notice so you don’t have the time to rent the gear. cinema grade matte box with 4.56 filters look rediculusly big with it (although on plus side no one thinks of me as an amateur any more)

Yes! I would apply everything I said here to the micro cinema camera too. Especially in terms of image quality, as they are virtually identical. I only with the micro had a little LCD screen, but that’s easily solved. Reply This article needs to be updated. The reason given is: New models. The result is what you’d think, complete with 8 bit artifacting, banding etc, but it told the story. bmpcc 4k – night shots (that can’t be shot during the day and graded to night), slowmo (for the reasons I can’t comprehend) This is a double edged sword - on the one hand, it perfectly matches the limits video places on exposure control by contrast to photography. On the other, it means you really need to know your camera to get the most out of it. You could absolutely release a film shot on virtually any camera in this day and age. That said, you are probably more likely to release a film shot on a more traditional cinema camera (at least statistically). But a great movie is a great movie, and if the story/acting/editing/cinematography are all top notch, no one will care what it was shot on. Reply There’s also a USB-C port, supporting data transfer and slow charging. A point to note - this won’t keep the camera alive while shooting, just supplement the battery power to ease the load.

If a current digital 16mm camera existed, I’d be first in line to buy one. But until that happens, I’ll happily continue to utilize the tool I already own and know can deliver the results I need. My good old BMPCC! The Camera has a 5" 800x480 LCD touchscreen display and dedicated buttons that can play and pause, stop, skip, focus and record media, access the menu and to power on the device. It can record raw, CinemaDNG, Apple ProRes and Avid DNxHD onto 2.5K and 1080p resolutions, as well as lossless 2.5K raw, in 23.98, 24, 25, 29.97 and 30 fps. It’s a great camera in 2020. You don’t need 4k (cinema theaters get max. 2k, most 1080p) – if someone asks for it – upscale it – no one will notice after tiny tweaks (it records everything – there is plenty of detail to play with – it’s not dslr/phone etc. with its sharpening like crazy mode always on).Have you seen the Ikonoskop A-cam DII ? That is what you are looking for. With a global shutter too. But the lesson here is that newer isn’t always better. Sometimes the best camera for any given situation is the one we already have. Just because it’s “outdated” doesn’t mean it’s no longer a viable tool.

After testing it for over a week for location based shoots and a studio based commercial, does the reality live up to the hype? I currently shoot 16mm film pretty exclusively (I direct music videos). I’m interested in giving the og bmpcc a try but can’t find any good raw footage to test grades on. Are you able to upload a few minutes of footage? Reply I was shooting Fomapan R100, having it processed, and self scanning with a diy setup using a Nikon D5200. I can’t help but wonder how many other filmmakers are longing for a current, affordable, native Super 16mm digital film camera. Maybe I’m alone on this one… But I certainly hope not. What’s also interesting is that the manual electronic focus on MFT lenses requires a very long turn of the focus ring by contrast to, for example, the GH5. It can feel inconsistent and potentially hamper you from getting that pan-focus you want, especially if you’re winging it without any supporting accessories. What’s missing? Would love to know what a pro like yourself thinks if you get a chance to watch it! https://youtu.be/SBwje8EDl84 Reply The 58mm lens cap easily snaps on to protect your camera’s lens from scratches, dust, moisture, and fingerprints when the camera isnot inuse. At the base is a slightly flimsy battery door which is removable so the potential for third party battery grips is a reality, while to the left you’ve got a dual card slot which feels a bit more sturdy. The camera takes SD and CFast cards, with the CFast cards required for the highest quality raw 4K video. With 4K CinemaDNG RAW recording at 272 MB/s and ProRes 422HQ recording at 117.88MB/s, you will want a lot of storage media, even for short projects. Getting specific, a 256GB card will capture 14 minutes of 30fps raw footage. DaVinci Resolve
