Adding a waterproof-breathable GORE-TEX liner and GORE Grip technology to the Heli equation, these are extremely weather resistant and offer enhanced dexterity, making them one of the finest gloves available for mountaineering use. The warmest of the Ergo Grip family, these insulated gloves are perfect for mid season touring and other applications where a precise grip is critical to success. Still, despite customer satisfaction, Hestra decided to alter the design of the Fall Line in 2021, adding a fully removable liner.

It's 2023, so why wouldn't you want touch-screen sensitivity on your ski gloves? A number of manufacturers now offer exactly that (including The North Face's Montana), so that you can snap photos or videos without taking your gloves off. You'll most often find the technology, however, on thin gloves and liners where it's easier to incorporate, plus the thinner liners are more precise when typing. On some models, only pointer fingers and thumbs are touch-screen compatible. Overall, we consider this a nice feature if a model you like has it, but it's not the first factor we consider in selecting a glove. From premium Hestras to budget options like the Flylow Gear Ridge, they have a much more natural feel and are usually more flexible and dexterous than a comparable synthetic. The biggest downside is moisture protection. Leather—and particularly treated leather—is water resistant and can withstand light to moderate wetness. But eventually they will soak through in wet conditions. To stay dry and extend the lifespan of your leather ski gloves, try Sno-Seal or a Nikwax waterproofing treatment. Leather gloves are durable and comfortable, and some models are relatively inexpensive The three-finger design has separate compartments for the thumb and first finger, while the middle, ring, and pinky fingers are housed together mitten-style. The liner, which is made from Hestra’s proprietary G-Loft insulation, looks like a standard glove and has five separate fingers. The merits of gloves versus mittens is a hotly debated topic in the skier community, and which one is best for you will ultimately be a matter of personal preference. Generally speaking, mittens are going to be warmer than gloves but come at the expense of dexterity. The heat of your fingers being together is going to provide more warmth than any fabric separating them ever could, however, some skiers — some of our testers among them — find the best gloves have perfectly adequate insulation to keep them warm while enjoying the mobility of separation. Three-fingered gloves (also known as trigger mitts) allow you to have a bit of the best of both worlds by separating your index finger from the main mitt.

They have some of the best insulation available, which may be overkill if you primarily ski in warmer environments. These have earned a reputation for warmth and durability, which is why they’re trusted by mountain guides and outdoor professionals the world over. If you need to crank up the heat even further, Hestra offers a wool glove liner or mitten liner (sold separately) that brings these very close to the warmth of the Army Leather Extreme mitten. The Freeride series takes premium features like a supple leather shell with flex panels and synthetic G-Loft insulation, and adds Hestra’s waterproof-breathable CZone liner, making them perfectly suited to damp climates and wet snow. You won’t find a more beautiful ski glove than the Hestra Fall Line 3-Finger. This all-leather, undercuff design with exposed stitching is a work of art. It’s a great tribute to Hestra’s long history of glove making, and in addition to skiing, the Fall Line 3-Finger and standard glove model are among our favorite options for everyday wear and work in the winter. It’s true that the Fall Line isn’t for everyone as warmth and water resistance fall noticeably short of the Oyuki Pep above (it’s best for mild days or those working up some heat), but you won’t find a better-made mitt.
