About this deal

If you miss out on buying and planting bulbs in autumn, gardening retail outlets and supermarkets often have bulbs grown in containers available in spring. Ideally buy these before they come into full flower. Grab one corner, we’ll start with the right one, and fold it upwards, not right to the center but at a slight angle.

In southern climates with mild winters, plant bulbs in late November or December. The bulbs will need to be chilled in the refrigerator for about 12 weeks before planting.(Bulb suppliers often offer pre-chilled bulbs for sale, too.)Inter Miles – distance between instructions. we tend to use the previous tenth of a mile rather than going to the next full tenth so 3.76 miles would be shown as 3.70 rather than 3.80. This is because we think you should tell you to look out for a junction a little before rather than after it! We have posted photos from this years Coast to Coast on our Gallery. Thanks to Mike Wood and Glyn Hughes… Read more… Now, fold both sides of the middle crease in half, on the bottom side of the current pattern. The straight side of this pattern is the bottom side of the leaf and the pointy end is the top end of the leaf. After flowering, tulips sometimesdevelop seedheads. These areremoved ( deadhead ing), cutting off the stalk just above the leaves. If you are growing specialist tulips, some can begrown from seed, so you may wish to leave seedheads until they've ripened. See the Propagation below for details of how to grow tulips from seed. Encouraging reflowering

Rembrandt: Once prized for their colorful streaks and mottling, no longer grown commercially because the coloring was caused by a virus that spreads to other tulips; plants now advertised as 'Rembrandt' are cultivars that mimic the look of the originals. Plant tulip bulbs in the fall, 6 to 8 weeks before a hard, ground-freezingfrost is expected. The bulbs need time to establish themselves. Planting too early leads to disease problems.See local frost dates. To deter mice and moles—if they have been a problem—put holly or any other thorny leaves in the planting holes. Some gardeners use kitty litter or crushed gravel. If ravenous voles and rodents are a real problem, you may need to take stronger measures, such as planting bulbs in buried wirecages. In the spring, when leaves emerge, feed your tulip the samebulb food or bone meal you used at planting time. Waterwell.Double early: More than the usual number of petals, with a fluffy appearance; tall stems (12 to 15 inches); start blooming in early April; can be harmed by cold snaps and winds. For (mottled) foliage: T. greigii (mottled or striped), T. fosteriana ‘Juan’, T. kaufmanniana ‘Heart’sDelight’
