Dank der phantastischen, mystischen Welt, in die uns die Autorin mitnimmt, gewinnt die Erzählung etwas richtig Märchenhaftes, was mich, als große Märchenliebhaberin, überaus gefreut hat. Also ich bin kulissenmäßig definitiv vollauf auf meine Kosten gekommen. Eine große finstere Burg, ein bedrohlicher Wald – fand ich echt klasse und da alles sehr bildhaft und atmosphärisch beschrieben wird, habe ich mir von sämtlichen Schauplätzen ein ganz genaues Bild machen können. Ein wenig schade fand ich nur, dass es keine Landkarte vom Setting im Buch gibt. Eine Karte hätte ich irgendwie ziemlich cool gefunden. Aber wie gesagt, ich habe mich auch ohne eine grafische Darstellung problemlos in Francesca Gibbons‘ Fantasywelt zurechtfinden können. Die Handlung an sich wird von Imogen meist wiedergegeben auch von anderen Figuren. Ich fand es düster und spannend. Waar het eerste boek vooral de vibe van west-Europese sprookjes heeft en zich afspeelt in het bos, ontvouwt het avontuur in dit deel zich onder de aarde en in het water: van steen gevormde monsters met brandende kruinen, riviermeerminnen met scherpe tanden en schubben, hebberig makend zilver uit de mijnen. Opnieuw een sprookje, met slechteriken, nog ergere slechteriken, gierige volwassenen, behulpzame ouders en monsters die kinderen uit dorpen laten verdwijnen. Ondanks haar vele zorgenbeestjes blijkt Imogen onverschrokken zus Marie te behoeden voor kwaad - maar misschien is het andersom wel Marie die haar redt. Ho potuto leggere tempo fa il primo volume di questa meravigliosa serie per ragazzi e me ne innamorai tantissimo. A partire dalle attenzioni estetiche che la casa editrice ha donato al volume, sino all'interno e alle meravigliose illustrazioni, è un'opera che si mostra un gioiello dal primo impatto.

Marie is my favourite character, I think she is the true hero of the story! Imogen did really, really irk me at times, but she slowly starts to progress and develop. Secret treasures and stones are part of Drakomor’s hoard hidden throughout his castle chambers. The most valuable of these is the Sertze Hora, the heart of the Klenot Mountain which he’d stolen long ago, and whose absence has caused the slow death of the forests and the skret that escaped and now live there. It is this theft that caused the schism which darkens the Kingdom. Insomma, una lettura che va bene assolutamente per un pubblico dai dieci anni in su ma che consiglio anche a chi come me ha la sindrome di Peter Pan. Inoltre oltre alla storia semplice e scorrevole, le illustrazioni sono una vera gioia per gli occhi.

I would have liked a little more thought and depth on them, but I did like their blossoming friendships. The children become pawns in a continuing game of greed, treachery, lies, murder and deceit within this once harmonious place. Although Miro’s loyalty to his uncle keeps him ignorant of what he really is, the truth remains ugly.

Ook in dit deel verweeft auteur Francesca Gibbons haar gevatte schrijfstijl voortdurend door het sprankelende avontuur. Korte hoofdstukken en vanzelfsprekende perspectiefwisselingen maken dat je het boek niet kunt wegleggen en daarbij regelmatig hardop grinnikt.
