About this deal

Not all breeds can show their happiness in this way though. Dogs with very short or curly corkscrew tails might not be able to wag in a circular fashion due to their limited range of motion. It’s also important to note that not all dogs use helicopter tail to express their joy. If [circling] is all of a sudden new and random,” says Ellis, “we have to question, is there a medical reason that this is occurring? In which case, you’ll need to make sure there’s not a neurological reason. I would talk to a veterinarian or veterinary behaviourist.” Especially, as Ellis points out, if your dog is circling multiple times throughout the day. Be sure to also keep an eye on extended pacing, which could be a sign of stress or health issue, and requires consulting with a professional sooner rather than later. Seizures

Whether you fancy a short stroll through the woods or are up for a longer walk that takes in Millington Dale as well you and your pooch will have the time of your life here. You can park at the Millington Woods car park, but bear in mind that there are no facilities here, the nearest ones are at the dog friendly pub in the village, The Gait Inn, although this tends to be open only at weekends in the daytime except for in high season. From my years of observing dog behavior, I’ve noticed the helicopter tail often comes out when dogs greet their favorite humans. It’s more likely to happen when they haven’t seen the person for an extended period. Some dogs can’t contain their joy and give a helicopter wag every time their owner walks through the door though! If you want to see a bit more of the Wolds though I thoroughly recommend this 61/2 mile walk from The Walking Englishman which begins at the same place and passes through Elloughton Dale as well as the beautiful Welton Dale. This trail takes you through two of the most beautiful little villages in the area; Snowshill and Stanton, with plenty of impressive views from hilltops, as well as some elements of the classic British woodlands. The full route is 6 miles long, but there is a shorter circular route of 2.5 miles if you want a more relaxed stroll. This walk does include some stiles, but with a bit of assistance, we’re sure your dog will hop right over.

Alert. An alert dog will often hold their tail in an upright, rigid position. While this “flagging” position can indicate curiosity, it could also signal defensiveness in certain scenarios. So, if your dog’s circling behaviour stems from a place of happiness and getting comfy, the chances are their actions are normal. But, if your dog appears to be in any distress, or suddenly begins to circle out of nowhere, there could be some health issues at play. Health issues related to walking in circles As you pass through several different towns and villages on this long walk, you’ll have plenty of opportunities for you and your canine companion to pause and take a pit stop. Some pet-friendly spots include The Castle Inn in Nether Stowey and The Greyhound Inn in Stogursey. Below, we take you on a tour of the UK, showcasing our favourite dog walks in each area, there's also a link to guides for each area so that you can discover your own favourite! Upon your return to Minster Lovell there are some fantastic pubs for you to relax with your dog including the Old Swan and the White Hart.
