About this deal

If you're looking for a swivel baby car seat – that's a car seat with a rotating base – you'll be pleased to know there are now more models than ever that have this feature.

With large puncture-proof wheels and a bouncy suspension, Bugaboo’s latest offering in the Fox line, the Fox 5, provides an exceptional ride for little ones. Our parent tester, Beccy, put it through its paces on gravel roads, muddy paths and woodland trails, describing it as a “true workhorse” when on the move with her toddler and preschooler. To ensure we find products that can withstand family life, we always look for recommendations from our trusted Mumsnet users on the forums. With 10 million users each month, we know we’re identifying products that have been thoroughly put to the test in everyday situations. Consult the experts If you plan to have more than one child, some prams can be transformed from a single pushchair to a double by adding another seat. For families who already have more than one child, you may want to go for a double buggy that already has two seats for ferrying your children around. For those who wish to personalise their pram, they can choose from 12 different colourways and add-on many of the luxury Bugaboo accessories, such as the baby bag and cup holder. We recently tested the Bugaboo Fox 3, which similarly feels weightless to push and manoeuvre; but the Fox 5 is even more comfortable to use.

Safe and relaxed travel

What lets it down in terms of functionality is the basket which can hold 4kg in weight but struggles to fit a changing bag inside. It can also take over an hour to assemble. When you choose a Maxi-Cosi carrycot, you’ll have the benefit of being able to easily attach it to our range of pushchairs, making it a part of an ideal 3-in-1 travel system for when you’re on the go with your little one. Your baby will spend many hours in a cot, so make sure it's safe. If you're buying a new cot, look for one that meets British safety standard BS EN 716. The BS number should be in the instructions or marked on the cot itself. Lightweight and resilient shell with integrated EPP foam for maximized energy absorption on impact.

Or look out for a pushchair where the seat can convert into a carrycot. This means you can switch between the two without the added cost (or the space-occupying attachment) of a carrycot. Models we've tested with that feature we've tested include the Red Kite Push Me Pace, Cybex Balios 2-in-1 2020, Graco Transform and Maxi Cosi Zelia 2. It was praised by our parent tester, Beccy, mum of two to a toddler and preschooler, who said that the Aster 2 “revolutionised our family’s outings,” adding “if I had known about the Aster 2 before our first child, I would have bypassed our bulky travel system and opted for this ultra-compact pushchair instead.” Key specs – Age range: Suitable from birth to 25kg; Wheels: Interchangeable and removable (1 x rural wheel set and 1 x urban wheel set); Folded dimensions: L69 x W61 x H24; Unfolded dimensions: L68 x W61 x H105; Weight: 12.6kg The frame is light and compact, with an extendable handle and swivel wheels for easy navigation and for hopping on and off public transport. The fold can be done one-handed and is petite enough to store in a small car boot. This is a great travel system that’s super stylish, pleasurable to push and with plenty of storage space to boot. It’s definitely worthy of serious consideration and is a much more affordable option to some of the very expensive options in this list.

Why Choose Me

Dream drape™ pulls down smoothly and attaches quietly with magnets. Because nothing beats a lovely, uninterrupted nap. Suitable from: Birth to 22kg (around four years) | Weight: 11.5kg | Folded dimensions: 87 x 69 x 34cm | World-facing: Yes | Parent-facing: Yes (with carrycot) | Car seat compatible: Yes | Wheels: Air-filled tyres | Carrycot included? No, only as part of a bundle What we like You can buy pushchairs with seats that can lie flat for newborns (some parents feel that these aren’t cosy or protective enough), or that have a separate carrycot. Tested with a seven-week-old, our parent tester, Laura, found the carrycot to be roomy and well padded with a sun canopy that can be extended quite substantially on sunny days. The sun hood is used for both the carrycot and the regular seat unit.

Key specs – Age range: Suitable from birth to 22kg; Wheels: Four-wheel suspension; Folded dimensions: 76 x 59 x 38cm (LWH); Unfolded dimensions: 72 x 59 x 89-105cm (LWH); Weight: 10.8kg If you're borrowing a crib or a cot, or using one that's been used by another of your children, you should ideally buy a new mattress.

We favour their continuous sleep

Lie-flat or carrycot car seats can be a good solution for newborns, especially premature babies or those with medical conditions, who need to be transported lying flat. To make it more cost effective you could make sure the carrycot is suitable for overnight sleeping, thereby saving the money you would have spent on a Moses basket and travel cot.
