About this deal

The telling of the story through archival content with you and George as the narrators drives the WHAM! story in such a powerful way. doet niet moeilijk als George na 2 albums de stekker uit Wham! trekt en voor een solocarrière kiest.

But by 1986, George's decision to go solo ended the band and with that, Wham! bowed out with one last concert at Wembley. The tabloids were predictably cruel after that, claiming that Ridgeley was the weak link who didn't really contribute anything of value to the band's sound. I think we as a family, (there are lots of us, we Greek Cypriots, we're everywhere)!! have come to fully appreciate (although we already knew really), quite how much love there is out there in the world, for both Yog and his beautiful music. In 2005, Ridgeley and Michael made plans to reunite as Wham! for Live 8, but Ridgeley reportedly pulled out at the last minute. In 2012, Michael dismissed rumours that they were set for a reunion to mark the 30th anniversary of their first record. Michael said that there was no truth in speculation the group would reform for a one-off concert. [20] Asked when he thinks they were both happiest, Ridgeley says, “I’ve been content and happy at various points, but my late teens, when Shirlie, Yog and I spent most of the time in each other’s company, was a carefree, golden period. I think Yog was probably at his happiest when he and Anselmo were in each other’s lives.” Brazilian designer Anselmo Feleppa was Michael’s self-confessed “first love”: they met in a hotel lobby in 1991, and lived together in Los Angeles until Feleppa died of Aids in 1993. Indeed, they shared a London council flat to begin with and Sex Pistol Paul Cook produced their first single, Aie A Mwana. However, it wasn’t long before they were on the cover of everything from Smash Hits to The Face and the NME.One Wadebridge resident said: "Regularly see him, he's just a normal bloke going about his business but always smiles and chats. His dad was lovely a true gentleman and used to be a marshall on carnival night." The documentary was Ridgeley’s idea, which he proposed to the George Michael estate after realising that there was still a huge affection for Wham! – so much affection that their 1984 single, Last Christmas, reached last year’s much-coveted Christmas Number One spot, 38 years after its original release. Bananarama were that rare pop group that were accepted by the “cool kids” too. In their heyday – between 1982 and 1988 – I was into The Clash and The Smiths but it was okay to like Really Saying Something and Cruel Summer. Since 1991, Ridgeley has generally shunned publicity, [20] but he did agree to give an on-camera interview for the first time since the split in a 2005 documentary, A Different Story, about the life of George Michael. [21] Ridgeley also appeared as a studio guest on the first series of the BBC 2 programme Fantasy Football League in 1994. [22] What is also not clear are the many years between the dissolution of Wham! and the death of George Michael. I would have liked a bridge to close the gap. But it’s the end of Wham!, failed solo album for Ridgeley, failed motor racing career and then the phone call in 2016 letting him know his best mate died. I was offered a few film roles and I went to an acting coach," Andrew recalled. "It was immediately apparent to me that it was not something that I wanted to do.Andrew Ridgley lovingly goes on to express the profound loss of his best friend who shared his hopes, ambitions and together achieving their ultimate dream.

I had a very anti-pathetical relationship with the press, and it didn’t do me any good. I saw it as a sport, they saw it as sport, but actually it would have been far easier, had I been slightly less confrontational. I don’t think that served me well.” For the firsttime, Andrew Ridgeley—one half of one of the most famous bands in the world—tells the inside story of Wham!, his lifelong friendship with George Michael, and the formation of a band that changed the shape of the music scene inthe early eighties. The book tells of how Andrew Ridgeley and George Michael first met, their dream to become a pop group and how that dream came true. There are lots of photos from Andrew Ridgeley’s personal collection throughout the book which I liked. The only thing I will say is, there wasn’t a lot to read after Wham! split. I know the book is about Wham! but I would’ve like to have known a little more about life for the author after they split, he doesn’t mention about his relationship with Keren Woodward from Bananarama at all. Maybe there was an agreement between them that she not be included in the book, who knows… I just felt the ending of the book was a little rushed hence why I’m giving 4 Stars.

Retailers:

It was all there in the music. Maybe it wouldn’t have been the same had we not been such close friends. Who knows? And one of the reasons Yog had to step beyond Wham! was so he could fulfil his personal artistic destiny, and the kind of songwriter he was becoming as an adult.”
