About this deal

Lagavulin 8 offers an intriguing introduction to the world of Islay whiskies. It’s peaty yet refreshing. Light yet complex. The smoky sweetness dances around on your palate, flirting with citrusy hints before leaving a warm, lingering finish. Lagavulins are produced using malt that has been heavily peated. This malt is mixed with water sourced from local burns and then matured for 8-16 years in oak casks. As it matures, the smokey-peaty flavour becomes concentrated and can linger on the palate long after drinking. For starters, the higher ABV of the Lagavulin 8, asserts a more potent and impactful flavour. It brings out the character of the whisky in a more profound way, allowing the smoky, peaty notes to shine through strongly. This punchier profile means it’s a dram that commands your attention. It’s bold. Peaty upfront with that same iodine meets novocain quality hanging around. Burnt orange glaze, ash malt, subtle toffee, coffee cake, cinnamon and something a little hard to explain swims in the murky orange caramel depths. It’s like a vanilla mint pepper combo that adds a punchy sweetness. A Royal Appointment". The Bystander. England. 22 July 1908 . Retrieved 26 February 2023– via British Newspaper Archive. Since 2010, Lagavulin has sponsored the Islay Jazz Festival and began hosting the Lagavulin Jazz Festival in 2017. Each year, Lagavulin releases a limited-edition whisky to commemorate the festival. The latest 2021 edition was released in November 2021 with just 3,000 units available for sale. The 13-year old cask strength whisky was finished in mezcal casks and is described as having smoky, meaty aromas and notes of spicy wood and smoke-dried jalapeño peppers. It strength was critiqued by a literay icon. Lagavulin, located on the southern coast of the island of Islay, is one of the world’s most famous Scottish distillers. It was founded in 1816, and eventually made its way into the Diageo portfolio, where it’s one of the six whiskies to make up the Classic Malts of Scotland series. All of Lagavulin’s distillate is made with heavily peat-smoked malt, giving its products that signature reek and pronounced maritime character that leads many to point to it as the canonical Islay whisky. In addition to the use of peat-smoked barley from the nearby Port Ellen Maltings, the distillers at Lagavulin credit relatively long fermentation times (at least 55 hours) and a slow secondary distillation process as key aspects to developing Lagavulin’s unique flavor. No doubt about it, both have comparable expressions of their own. There’s a wide maturity gap of 8 years and the differences are conspicuous (not to mention the prices).

Lagavulin 16 Year Old – Tinh hoa của lịch sử

Bowmore has been in the business of making its distinctive whisky for the best part of 250 years so, as you might imagine, they know what they’re about. If you’re dipping your toe into Islay’s take on the water of life for the first time, then this is an ideal entry point. A fine thread of smoke, heather sweetness and just a smidgen of iodine makes this malt a lovely balance of all the island has to offer. If we decide not to exercise or enforce any right or provision of these Terms, such decision shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision. Lagavulin fills their stills to 95% capacity, whereas Caol Ila only fills them to 50-60%, which makes a huge difference in the final product. Overall I love the Lagavulin 16 with all my liver. I willingly concede that heavily peated scotches like this are an acquired taste, but once you acquire that taste it doesn’t get much better than this when it comes to basic offerings. There are a host of bold sweet, savory and smoky flavors that can really give your palate a workout. It’s the kind of whisky that can easily take up a half hour or more of your time as you meditate through it. That same bold and flavorful character also makes it very easy to let the peat and malt wash over you and just relax after a long day. It’s a truly fantastic dram.

Their Islay roots ensured a robust, lingering finish, with the smoke and spice notes staying on for an encore. It was a satisfying end note for both whiskies, a round of applause that lingers in your senses, urging you to take another sip. But sometimes you need an experience with a little more grit, something that reflects the grimy, complex, trying, sometimes objectively bad experience of real life. For times like that, there’s Lagavulin. It’s peaty, medicinal, pungent, smoky, a Band-aid factory in the throes of catastrophic meltdown, and when you really need it, nothing else will do.After the initial peat, some warming citrus and hints of vanilla. It continues to bring you hints of coffee and a bit of iodine. This Ardbeg 10 yo is a big whisky but not overwhelming at all. The Lagavulin 16 needs very little introduction. Known as the quintessential Islay malt, it brings to your glass an ensemble of rich, smoky sweetness and deep sea-salty hints. No partnership, joint venture, agency, or employment relationship is created as a result of your use of the Service. The name Lagavulin is an anglicisation of Lag a' Mhuilinn, the Scottish Gaelic for hollow of the mill.
