I liked that Clare was a flawed character who was strong and independent but almost constantly had an inner conflict about her decision to stay married after Dan was found having an affair. Struggling to raise three kids while holding down a full-time job and having to deal with that family—Phew! What a nightmare. This is what life was all about-family, people you love, your children close by, everyone safe, warm and happy.” BUT Ella knows her secret and so Clare has to shut up in the face of all of Ella's B.S. Will Ella tell all when Clare loses her cool? Will Ella sleep with Clare's wh*re of a husband? Will Ella get hit by a car and leave us all feeling satisfied??? And why, WHY can no one else see through her lovely facade to the ugly beneath? Only it all never goes according to the plan, does it. Jamie arrives with his new wife. Ella is young and pretty, she is smart and seems to breeze through life. Only she is not so fond of Clare.
The fact Ruth Harrow has interwoven a truth about our lives today into this story adds to the thrill of finding out what the truth actually is. The fact that all the characters aren't what the reader thinks adds some more to this psychological thriller. A great story which I can definitely recommend. But her sister Kate is the only one who knows Sarah has run like this before. And she's terrified for her sibling and for the unborn child she is carrying.
