About this deal

Plus, we have curated a fabulous Twinkl Teaching Wiki that goes into much more detail regarding the topic of grapheme-phoneme correspondence! How else can I teach phonics sounds to my learners? Like I noted above, beginners can just work on 5-6 letter sounds at a time. Alphabet Sounds Cover Up We can leave that debate to academic linguists and instead focus on how to teach your child to read the letters. Mistakes with Alphabet Phonics Sound Charts Using an alphabet phonics sounds chart makes a good starting place for you. It is a tool that will help you teach your child the sounds the right way.

I know many teachers didn't learn this framework in their teacher training, and it's such a passion of mine to make synthetic phonics easy and accessible. The worksheets are fantastic to help your young reader learning the phonics sounds. First, they include all the basic alphabet sounds but also additional sounds like ch, th, sh, and the long vowel sounds! Set aside 2 minutes of your phonics lesson. Point to the phonics sounds your student has already learned on the chart. As you point, have your student say the sound. This simple activity will help your student learn each phonics sounds location on the chart. This is beneficial. As a result, your student will begin to categorize sounds together, as in ee, ea, and ____y. With this knowledge (that long e has 3 spellings), your student will be a better reader and speller. Also, (and this is important), bring your student to the chart every time he makes an error. EVERY TIME. Since your lessons are leveled, you shouldn’t have to bring him to the chart all the time. However, for approximately 30% of the words in direct phonics instruction, you’ll need to point to the chart. Here’s a sample:

Visual resources are fantastic for supporting learning, and this Phonics Phase 2, 3 & 5 Wall Chart is no exception. This lovely chart displays all of the phonemes and sounds from phonics phases 2 to 5, as well as a grapheme for each of them.
