About this deal

No, Sengled smart bulbs do not work with the Hue Bridge because the bulbs use Wi-Fi and connect straight to your router. They do not require any hub or bridge. Do Philips WiZ Bulbs Work With Philips Hue? As WiZ uses Wi-Fi, the number of bulbs you can connect depends on your router. Typically, routers support up to 254 devices in total, but that includes your computers, TVs and so on. Realistically, you’re unlikely to hit the limit of your router, unless you want a massive installation of WiZ bulbs. While the main benefit of smart lightning might be controlling it from an app or using your voice, there are times when it’s just easier to use a dedicated switch. The huge range of wireless switches for Hue, from the Hue Wall Switch Module to the Senic Friends of Hue Smart Switch, is what makes that system stand out. Most of the competition doesn’t provide remotes, but WiZ has a limited selection.

You need to ensure the bulbs have the latest firmware before connecting as older versions have had many problems. They are not the best Hue-compatible bulbs on the market, see Innr, Lidl, IKEA, and Linkind for alternative products. Do Hive Bulbs Work With Hue? AduroSmart ERIA – This Dutch company offers some great lights that are a real contender to Philips Hue in terms of colourTesting with the WiZ A60 E27 Full Colour bulb, I compared its performance with the equivalent Hue bulb. Both bulbs put out similar brightness when used with standard colour temperatures (warm white to cold white), with a similar dimming range (cosy to intense). GLEDOPTO – This is a German-based brand so it’s not too far from our shores. They have Hue-compatible smart bulbs, however, these don’t have great colour reproduction. Where this brand does excel, is their controllers for LED lights which can help you add light strips and other built-in lights to Hue. Hopefully, they will make their products available in the UK soon. Yes, Osram (also known as Osram Sylvania) Smart+ bulbs do work with Hue in Europe, however, they do not in North America where they use a different Zigbee standard. No, Nanoleaf products cannot be used with the Philips Hue bridge. The Hue bridge uses Zigbee to communicate with bulbs whereas Nanoleaf products use either Wi-Fi or the new Thread standard. Do Govee Lights Work With Hue? Most third party bulbs support power-on behaviour which allows you to determine what state bulbs return to after a power cut (see my guide to setting up power-on behaviour).

Cree – Cree Zigbee bulbs work with Hue, Smart Things, Wink and more. However, no vendors are selling them in the UK right now. As the WiZ bulbs use Wi-Fi to connect, they can be a bit slow to register in the app if they’ve been turned off at the light switch: I found that they could take up to 30 seconds to appear, which is quite a lot slower than Hue bulbs take, with Zigbee being much faster and more reliable.Adding your third party bulbs to Hue is generally an easy process, but often requires one extra step that can vary by manufacturer.

Automate the lights to fit your daily or weekly routines. Schedule your light to turn on before you arrive home and keep it off when not needed.

For utility, WiZ also has a Circadian Rhythm option. This lets you select the colour of the light during the day, starting with a colder light from the wake-up time you select, moving through to a warmer tone for the bedtime you set. In this way, you have more natural lighting that will more closely match that of daylight, although this feature isn’t as sensitive as the similar one on the Dyson Lightcycle Morph, which adjusts light temperature based on your location and the time of year. While Hue doesn’t provide much in the way of dynamic scenes, WiZ does. With the likes of Fireplace or Ocean, your lights can shift colours gently creating a more intensive mood than a solid colour alone provides. The special bedtime and wake up scenes run over a 30 minute period, dimming or brightening the lights automatically.

As the WiZmote connects directly to lights, it’s just as responsive to use as the Hue remotes and switches. Should your Wi-Fi go down, the WiZmote will continue to work, so you can still adjust brightness and cycle through your selected scenes. Just to point out that only Osram Smart+ bulbs in Europe work with Hue, if you’ve imported them from the USA then they will use a different Zigbee standard (ZHA) which doesn’t work with Hue. Following the wizard in the app, it’s pretty easy to get the bulbs connected to the app. Once there, WiZ gets you to organise bulbs into rooms, so you can control groups of lights together. You’ll need good Wi-Fi where you want to connect your lights. Using a low-power RF protocol to communicate directly with a bulb, there’s a choice of the Motion Sensor to turn your lights on or off automatically, and the WiZmote remote control. Osram Sylvania (formerly Lightify) Smart+ bulbs have had a bad rep in the past with many users reporting trouble connecting them to a Philips Hue bridge. However, a firmware update seems to have solved these issues so ensure you have updated them before trying to connect.Create a cosy atmosphere with warm white light. A smart light that simply adapts to your daily activities
